Great information. Having gone to the Derby and Oaks the last two years ( and going in 2024!) I highly recommend flats or an extremely comfortable shoe at the very least as a second shoe. I saw A LOT of women who were absolutely miserable with blistered feet from high heels. I'd suggest wearing high heels for pictures, but also have comfortable shoes for the rest of the time. Trust me, once your feet are sore or blistered, you will be happy to forego fashion for comfort. Enjoy the Derby!

Thanks for watching hung and great tips. I always recommend breaking in shoes before wearing them for a special occasion as you never know which ones are going to cause blisters until it’s too late and then it’s miserable 😩

I take a pair of foldable ballerina flats and pop them in my handbag, life savers.

There is typically not any grass to walk through at the derby since everything is paved. Low heels are a MUST. I have seen too many younger women limping their way to their vehicles afterward. Also, bags allowed into the event are tiny. Not sure another pair of shoes will be able to be brought into the venue. Be smart ladies and enjoy looking spectacular!

Thanks for watching. Heel height is definitely personal preference and what you're used to. Most people will tell you to wear sensible shoes, something that you can walk on grass and gravel in and be ok wearing all day. Which is great advice. However, it depends on whether you care more about Kentucky Derby fashion or practicality and comfort. So yes definitely be smart and don't go for high heels if you're not used to wearing them for an entire day and walking a lot in them. I always wear stiletto heels or a high sculptural heel to the races as do many of the other women. My Mum on the other hand will wear a lower heel. My fold up flats fit in most of my bags, even the smallest ones. The bag size rule is normally that it has to be under 12" x 6" x 12" which is big enough for them. Current bag rules are here in case that changes: www.kentuckyderby.com/come-to-the-derby/visiting-information/event-information/#:~:text=Each%20guest%20is%20permitted%20one,x%206%E2%80%B3%20x%2012%E2%80%B3.&text=Guests%20with%20specific%20dietary%20needs,6%E2%80%B3%20X%2012%E2%80%B3). You would bring back grace to the derby in that white dress. Unfortunately today the celebs and other famous makes it look cheap.

Utterly incorrect! You absolutely may, and it is actually recommended to wear black on Derby Day. Green is the only color you should not wear.

You're right in that people can and do wear black hats and dresses to the Derby. I had read in a few places last year about them being unlucky (I research my content thoroughly) but after you said that I went back to find the sources that said about black hats being unlucky and came up with nothing. However, most stylists and Derby fashion articles will say not to wear black or dark colors "Myka advises people against wearing dark colors and it's 'even seen as anti-social." (ref: Daily Mail). So I'm not sure if the original content has been deleted about the hats or I'm not searching hard enough but either way I've deleted that part so thanks for the correction. There's lots of superstition in horse racing which I think fun. In regards to green, you're right but there's lots of conflicting info out there, some say not to wear it at all others say it's only frowned on for horse owners or trainers (again due to superstition).

I cringe every time I hear Derby pronounced Dar-bee 🥴
@EveDawes2 ай бұрын
The Kentucky Derby was patterned after the English Classic, the Epsom Derby which is pronounced Dar-bee. In American it’s Dur-bee and English it’s Dar-bee, both are correct but I sound stupid saying Dur-bee with an English accent. Accents and individuality is what makes the world beautiful.
