Unwrapping Davinci Resolve 18.5: Small New Features No One is Talking About

So which one is your favourite new small but major feature of Davinci Resolve 18.5? Was it in the video or have you found another gem that has made a massive difference to your workflow? I've been asking for 1-click still saving from Edit Page and Drag/Drop video track reordering for several years. Now these features are here and I'll likely be using them quite a bit.

I've always graded multicam videos within the multicam timeline itself. That way you only need to grade each angle and it'll already apply to all of your cuts. Then when you flatten you use retain grade from angles (the old default behavior) and it would all stay!

Totally agree with you. You could reorder them before but it was a little cumbersome and you had to move up or down a track at a time by right-clicking on the track headers and selecting move up or down. This is so much faster!! Thanks for watching the video.

The Grab frame still - I can't figure out what color space is applied as it doesn't use the render page. I found the same problem with Mac not applying the correct gamma on the images and of course there is no meta tags to edit to change the gamma for the frame. The only work around I found was to add a CST at the end of the timeline level with the output gamma set to rec709-a and then it got close to the gamma I see on my grading display. But it is puzzling to me where the image is reading the data to save the gamma in the first place. I never liked grabbing images the old way either - way too many steps and again it rarely matched what I see when opening the pm=ng. or the .tiff - so for a long time when a reference still was needed - I would just use full screen and the Print Screen on the Mac.

Are you useing quicktime to QC?

@@mariotriforce - no - if it's a still - it doesn't open in Quicktime. It's baking the gamma into the image when it makes the frame grab.

I'm coming from Adobe now using Resolve I always wants to know if its possible when editing different timeline inside one timeline if you can double click on a timeline inside the editing without going to the media pool to direct you exact where you click in that original timeline?

Oh that's a good one...so I understand, you want to have a timeline nested in the timeline you're editing and then double click a point on that nested timeline to have it open to exactly on that frame but with the nested timeline open? Is that right?

Which keyboard has F13 key? my laptop doesn't have F13.

It’s one of them fancy ones with the number pad! 😉 It can be any shortcut you like. For me it just needed to be an easy, one press, single key and the F13 key was free!

Export current frame as still. This is a feature that has been in Premiere, Final Cut (going back before version 7 even) and AVID for many, many years. I am surprised it took BMD this long to add this feature and I am saddened that the image that get's exported does not reflect the resolution of the timeline unless it is 1080. A pretty lame effort in my opinion.
