I agree. Given the historic nature of this event, it would have been nice to see a shot of the ENTIRE train go by.

I wanted to see the entire train, too.

this is very historical and important the union pacific railroad and the Ringling circus have been friends a very long time 3985 can still kick ass pacing along the mainline like it's nothing what a site watch The DRIVERS WORK hauling all that tonnage BRAVO BRAVO
@Willysmb442 жыл бұрын
I'd never even heard this happened, amazing!
@1940limited4 жыл бұрын
I never knew 3985 pulled the circus train. That was a fitting assignment for the locomotive which was obviously quite capable of getting the job done along with many UP cars and a diesel. We'll never see this again.

@nosmoking099 You can also look up SP 4449, she's one of the big mainline engines (mostly in the west and midwest again) - you could also possibly say that Nickel Plate Road 765 is mainline steam - she's about as east as it gets right now. For some older mainline steam in the East, you can check out either Norfolk and Western 611, 1218, or C&O 614. All great choices for some videos to check out.

Don't forget about Portland's other steam locomotives, the SP&S 4-8-4 # 700 and the OR&N 4-6-2 # 197.

Nice set of shots, and in HD as well! Great work.

Look at about 48 secs, when the 3985 passes the standing diesel power. She dwarfs them!

@nosmoking099 No I wasn't - similarly to you, I'm nowhere near Colorado, I'm on the other side of the country, in Pennsylvania. So this is the only way for me to see the train.

Why, when you are filming the 'longest train in the 21st century', would you NOT capture a complete pass?

@nosmoking099 Depends where "there" is, and what sort of "steam locomotives" you're curious about. On the western/central side of the country, there are 3 or 4 that do a few "mainline" excursions. Eastern US, none that are true "mainline" engines that are currently operating (or allowed to operate due to freight companies and their stupid regulations and insurance rates. If you mean steam locomotives in general that are running, there are a lot! Check out my KZbin page to see a few. :)

From my understanding it's there only to assist in providing electric power to the cars and a backup in case the challenger brakes down.

What was with there being a diesel engine behind the 3985?

Electric power to the passenger coaches?
@lazarusfernandez19896 жыл бұрын
I believe they do that for extra braking and assistance in case of an emergency.
@soarinskies11056 жыл бұрын
Jody Reeder it is there to provide the passenger cars with power and the train with dynamic braking, the engine isn’t doing anything else besides that, the old girl at the head is still pulling the whole train.
