Or maybe the way we judge a product should not involve such silly things as time. Great things don’t need to take ten years to make. And vice versa.
@scado56794 жыл бұрын
The Daimajin trilogy really was quite an ambitious project. Getting all three films out within the same year AND having them all be of such high quality must've been quite a feat, and I find myself respecting Daiei all the more for it. Now if only they carried some of that quality into some of their late-Showa-era Gamera films, because if that had happened I guarantee that Daimajin Strikes Again would not be the only masterpiece worth this kind of praise. Since everyone seems to be requesting film reviews in the rest of the comments section, I might as well submit mine: Gorath.

Daiei Film is probably best remembered by Western audiences for the Zatoichi series, 25 period movies released over 11 years (with a two-year break) focusing on a blind yakuza gambler and swordsman during the late Edo era. Those movies were high-quality productions that, at its height, saw 3 movies released a year, all featuring the same actor as the star. Those kinds of episodic films were the studio's wheelhouse, and the Daimajin series is pretty much the same kind of movie, with a 20-odd minute special effects climax.

I was a 10 years old Japanese primary school pupil when I watched "Daimajin" at a movie theater in my hometown with my deceased grandmother and a younger brother. Along with "Daimajin", "Gamera Vs Barugon" was also released at the same time. It was one of the most exciting moments in my life.

Y'know I'm quite surprised that Daiei didn't follow the example of the Godzilla films by including previous monsters in their current films. I would have loved to have seen Gamera team up with the Daimajin.

Agree with you, a better sequel than The Return. Loved the children adventure spin on it with some surprisingly bleak moments. Moreover, Daimajin uses his sword this time! Wonder why they haven’t rebooted the series yet? I think Daimajin got potential for a present day interpretation in multiple angles...with political allegory, socioeconomic class system or urbanization themes or they can simply put it in Gamera universe, battling Mechas! There was a TV show though but with a different approach.

What if they set Daimajin in a post-apocalyptic world?
@TheWaffleman544 жыл бұрын
See that would be an great idea to have a new series of films which are incorporated in the Gamera universe, it would make an interesting parallel to the Godzilla franchise because it's proven that magic and science can exist within the same universe. Same case for Gamera and Daimajin.

That would be fantastic and Jidaigeki is still fairly popular these days (think of the Samurai movies that are being made even now), so Daimajin could certainly be resurrected. It would be cool though if Daiei's creations had their own cinematic universe featuring their monsters, so like if you had a Gamera movie you could set the next one up for Daimajin.

Not the most high quality kaiju special effects, but it’s undoubtedly one of the most influential series in Japanese tokusatsu, and in my opinion Ultraman is one of the greats alongside Kong, Godzilla, Mothra, and Gamera.
@scado56794 жыл бұрын
I fully agree. Although it's not exactly a movie series like the ones usually reviewed on this channel, Ultraman is at its core a show about a giant humanoid fighting giant monsters, which isn't too far off the mark for this channel. Plus I'm finding myself obsessed with Ultraman at the moment.
