Up Helly Aa 2025

Here we have my highlights package of Up Helly Aa 2025 in Lerwick, featuring all the best bits of our famous fire festival!
We begin with the morning parade and visit to the Toll Clock Shopping Centre before marching “in ower” for the Jarl’s Squad photo shoot with the Galley at the Alexandra Wharf. Next we have the Town Hall bells playing the Up Helly Aa songs (apologies for the car noise and wind interference, unfortunately not much we can do about that!) before some close up shots of the Galley - my main contribution to the festival is ensuring it gets painted - and the Bill. Feel free to pause at this point to read it and see if you can make sense of it.
Then it’s onto the evening’s activities with a quick shot of the junior galley well ablaze, before the main event of the senior torchlit procession and galley burning filmed from my vantage point up in the bandstand. My marshalling duties give me the best seat in the house and it would be criminal not to take advantage of that!
Finally, we round off with a couple of quick clips of my squad at the Sound School filmed by my cousin Janice, as we make our way to 11 different venues around the town performing our “very unique” version of the Kiss classic, “Crazy Crazy Nights”. How appropriate!
