Upcoming Emulators for iOS / iPhone! (3DS ✅, PPSSPP ✅, Wii ❌, PS2 ❌ & more)

Emulators for iOS & iPhone are allowed in Apple's App Store, but Delta is not the exception to the rule.
This means other emulators like PPSSPP (PSP Emulator), DolphiniOS (Wii and GameCube Emulator), Folium (Nintendo 3DS), NDS4iOS, iNDS, Provenance (PS1), Retro Arch (multi emulator) can make their way to the App Store.
But it isn't smooth sailing, some emulators require JIT, and so they will most likely not show up, unless major changes are made to the emulator.
Learn which emulators for iPhone will appear to the app store, and which will be limited to the old way, which virtually no one can use these days.

I’m already pretty onboard… already set up a bunch of cool OG childhood games like a bunch of different Sims or Spider-Mans or Madden, Mortal Kombats, Raving Games like Need For Speeds, even OG Tony Hawk Games, they play well! Im still doubting that even with iphone 20 cpu gpu ram can properly run emulator that strictly n̶e̶e̶d̶ require jit. Its a compiler that translate dynamically at run time. There a reason why JiT exists. Edit: Ios have a great hardwares, and can easily run most of the emulators out there, but limited due to apple’s “you can and you can’t” policies.

Has anyone experienced games flickering? In others I’ve also noticed black squares obscuring some of the characters and lettering. Diddy Kong racing, Pilotwings N64 and 1080 Snowboarding are just a few I noticed having these issues. Just wondering if it could perhaps be a bad copy of the rom or the emulator core itself, not that there’s an option to change it.

This is because of the emulator. N64 is based off of the “mupen core” and Delta uses an old copy, which needs to be updated

Nice video but a few things; Play! Is still in development and unstable. Its a good emulator and thank you to their team but there are not a lot of games that are running. Retroarch is a all in one launcher for all emulators, it is a UI that holds 3rd party emulators and integrates them seamlessly. Most common consoles/emulators dont require jit. Only lesser used and lesser developed emulators require jit so niche users are gonna be a little cramped.

@@Austinfdp that’s what i tried, with the terminal console and everything, typed in everything i was supposed to and even resulted to typing “True” after my dolphin link i type, and i also had Python installed, now there is one thing i didn’t try because i was on a time crunch, was making sure Python was in a visible folder, i just downloaded Python and that’s all and the terminal kept saying “python not found” so i mean that could’ve been the problem and i ran into some other stuff but i forgot

The reason Apple restricts JIT is because it can introduce security risks to the user. Just-In-Time (JIT) compilation is a way to run software that is compiled while it's also being executed at the same time. This is much different from traditional software, which must be fully compiled before it is executed. Again, Apple restricts JIT to specific applications and to developer use because of potential security risks, which is why it must be enabled in strange workarounds for apps/emulators. To reiterate, JIT compilation allows the emulator to dynamically translate the source code of the emulated system into machine code the iphone can compute at runtime. This results in more efficient execution compared to interpreting the code traditionally, as the translated machine code is optimized for the host device's architecture. All that to say, it speeds up emulators, but that's not really what it's meant for. Apple restricts it on iOS for security reasons, so I don't blame them.

So 3DS emulation doesn't use JIT? Exciting! Since Nintendo shut down production of the handheld and games, the digital store, and online functionality, the 3DS is now defunct and unsupported and could definitely be considered retro by some definitions.

I got PPSSPP working on my Phone and even though JIT is included with the emulator I still managed to Run Games at a very smooth resolution and quality! If PPSSPP can run smoothly on IOS without JIT then I don’t see a reason why Dolphin or Play! Cannot!

Hate the burst everyone’s bubble, but GameCube, PS2 and ESPECIALLY 3DS aren’t coming to the AppStore in the foreseeable future. More heavy emulation like all those mentioned need something called JIT, which is a recompiler that these emulators use to make games runnable at playable speeds. Apple for whatever reason doesn’t allow apps to take advantage of it without using certain methods that require constant internet connection and side loading apps, etc. And 3DS has zero chance given the lawsuit that just happened with the Yuzu and citra devs.
