Omg, you're killing me . I laughed so hard when you were sewing your dress, which by the way, is GORGEOUS !!! I only wish you would have shown us step by step how you repurposed it, you know, like a tutorial or something. I love thrifting clothes but all I'm good for is minor things, you are like a ninja, cutting, slashing, remaking the entire piece. You did a fabulous job.

You are JUST TOO CUTE! I also sew, I loved making my daughter clothes when she was little. It was enjoyable and loved putting them on her to wear. She’s now 40! I haven’t sewn in a while, I just mend things now. But watching you cut things up, I think OMG, I’m not that brave! You put them back together and they look ADORABLE on you! I love your outlook on going to the thrift store and buying garments due to the fabric, that’s awesome! You gave me a new outlook and I just might be taking out the ole Bernina sewing machine! Lol. Keep up the Great work and videos! I’m new to your channel and excited to see more!

Love your upcycles and I feel like we would be besties, even though I could prolly be your grandma😌Anyway, the reason that the skirt was so rectangular is that it was an '1980s does 1920s" dress. Thus the oversized long collar, dropped waist and straight skirt. These were not very flattering on most girls unless they were stick thin, and even then...not so much. The reason that they were worst is because they added a lot of extra gathers and ruching that that 1920s dresses didn't have and it was just and over the top mess. You did a great job making it relevant and I was nervous about the sheer inserts but they work! bravo!

Hi, thanks some good ideas there. For info. the triangular fabric inserts you used are called godets (pr. godays) they really worked on the dress it looked and moved so much better. Thanks also for talking about the things that didn't work, that is so helpful. One problem I have had when reducing the length of shorts is that so many now have a small amount of lycra/elastane in the weave so the sewing is a little tricky to keep smooth.
@amikrenzel5788 Жыл бұрын
Some great upcycles! I have been sewing since I was 5 and in high school thrifted a bit. Then years later I thrifted a lot. Somewhere the sewing and thrifting collided. I also thrift things because I love the fabric and will go from a few fixes to complete transformation. You have some great creative ideas. Do not feel you cannot add other non thrifted things to a remake......the goal is to make something you love. The dress with the godetts is awesome!

One of my first upcycles was a deep red satin blouse that I bought for $3 at a thrift store in Coos Bay, Oregon. I wanted a nice blouse to wear to work in an office, and this blouse fit perfectly, and it was ideal except that the buttons on the blouse were awful - they were old and most of the paint on them had flaked off, so I got some gold buttons out of my button stash and replaced the buttons on the blouse. The difference was amazing. P.S. I wish I looked 45 years old, as I'm 65.

I love doing that too: buying pieces from the thrift or used online (like depop) and then turning them into something else. Or fixing them so they fit me better. Except I am doing it by hand. Or do far I am anyway. I have successfully done a few bigger projects but I am still a novice really + still make mistakes. But I think we all do.

Great ideas for up-cycling. Loved the skirt. It would be great if you showed a little more of the cutting, sewing part of your work. And if you also showed the dress as you worked on each section. It would also be interesting to see it pinned to your mannequin as you go. Good luck to you and I have subscribed as I’m in the process of doing this to my wardrobe of many many items. You have some terrific ideas for changing clothes into usable clothes.

Hey Hannah, I'm so glad I came across your video. It's very inspiring and I love upcycling! I think you did a fantastic job on all of the things you transformed. And I really love the finished dress, it's so beautiful. But it did did make me laugh because I had the same kind of problems and all I was doing was a satchel bag 🤣🤣🤣 I can't tell you how many times I unpicked it and added stuff to cover my stupid mistakes. But I was so happy once it was done and it was kinda cool in the end 👍😁 Will be having a look at your other videos now. Keep going, upcycling is fantastic and the best way to go ❤️ so many thanks for sharing 🙏 Thumbs up from France. I have subscribed 🤗

You have a nice serger there, use it on your knit fabrics, it will make all the difference.
@kathysmigen3927 Жыл бұрын
I’m glad I found you because I need to do more upcycling. Does your serger have 4 threads? That will work great with knits. When sewing knits on my sewing machine, I use a stretch zigzag stitch then finish the seams with a 3 thread serger. Also, don’t force your fabric thru the sewing machine. Let it do the work while guiding. A walking foot is also a fantastic tool to use with knits and lighter weight fabric.

Please show more details on the last dress. How did you put in the boning?
@HannahCatherineMain Жыл бұрын
I have a pattern for a strapless dress that I loosely followed for this, you basically cut panels of fabric and then use boning with a cotton casing and stitch it on to the fabric at each seam between panels

The weirdly long shorts are walking shorts. Some people like them, some people don't. I do. Back in the day, they were called city shorts. I'm with you on the uneven hem lengths, tho. They still seem to be popular at least on Amazon ads. Personally, the only uneven hems I think look good are floor length with trains. But maybe that's just me.

You probably meant well, but offering advice out of the blue, especially to someone we DON'T really know about their appearance, without being asked, is a tad rude. Who knows what is going on in their lives or what insecurities they might have. And yes, she has a natural beauty and her upcycles were fab! Please, leave it at that, a positive. 🤓💕
