I really hope that the VR mode is somewhat like OPPOSER where it has the funny lil floating playermodel and arms where if you do the trigger button you can push (or in OPPOSER, punch!)

I'd say be realistic and don't expect 2.8 to be coming out in 2024 or anytime soon. According to Uglyburger0, he hasn't even really worked on it in a while, and it's still essentially in its infancy. Given how the game hasn't had a major update in 3 years this April, it's likely not coming anytime soon.
