It's been almost two years since we started the BRS160 Reef Savvy saltwater reef tank and we've been steadily using the Zeovit program with amazing results! Here's Ryan's thoughts on how Zeovit worked for this tank and how the Triton Method may stack up!

Love it! I would love to see a comparison of reefing methods tested. Example. Multiple tanks with the same hardware (lights, rockscape, sandbed, lighting, pumps, etc.) then do a different method on each. (Triton, zeovit, redsea, etc) Always add the same live stock and frags from the same mother colony, etc. I know so many origins are out there and methods... this could help people pick which one would work for each person!

Goes to show what a great system Zeovit is and hopefully this silences the critics who seem to be stuck in the 1990s with their insistence that dosing anything besides calcium, alkalinity and magnesium is sacrilegious to the reefing gods.

Great to see an update. This series helped me greatly when setting up my first tank and I was able to take quite a few pointers from it... My tank is a predator tank with a some easy Zoas and morphs so I obviously didn't need it a pristine as sps tank. Thanks again,for this series

Great write up on the 160, kind of feels like a conclusion. I started my reef tank the same time as 160 setup and have been dosing nopox from the start but now I'm taking the plunge and trying the refuguium cheato factory for nutrient export just like you plan to.

Ryan I would have to agree with you ... if you're not in tune with your reef aquarium why bother owning one? What I dread the most is water changes and filter socks ... but I do the maintenance. Checking parameters and feeding are the easy stuff, and like you, I enjoy the interaction with my reef aquarium

When are you guys going to start making 4k videos? :) I don't think I could do the zeo system myself. That extra 2-3 minutes of looking at the tank would always result in me putting my hands in the tank. I find I get better growth from my SPS when I don't touch a thing for days at a time. I've pretty much automated every aspect of my tank aside from filling the ATO tank - all of it ran by my v1 Cerebra. Really wish they'd hurry up on the v2! :)

Your corals look great and they have light colored tissue even without zeospur. They look better than most tanks I've seen thanks to your very low nitrates and phosphates. That being said, I would love to see what zeospur could do for this tank.

The results look pretty sweet! Can you dilute the Zeostart and add it to a dosing container? My reef is 65 gallons and I doubt my doser can dose such a low level without dilution.
@stijntaelman
@stijntaelman 7 жыл бұрын
Hello, you CAN dilute it with RODI water, BUT you must be very careful, because should any small number of bacteria be able to enter the solution, they will multiply fast and your solution will become unusable. the correct procedure involves heating RODI to 90 degrees Celcius and then mixing it. the exact steps are described somewhere on zeovit.com by G.Alexander

I carbon dose (sugar) and I started off doing it daily. Never actually measured it. Just tossed some in everyday. My nitrates where over 160 at the time. I want nothing it moving. One day I added about 2-3 times as much as I normally do and notice the tank got cloudy for about a day or 2 I did not add any sugar during this time to allow it to die down. Tested it after that and nitrates were down to 5. I kept up with it for a while after that. But then got cyano. Not bad but it was there. I used chemiclean and now I only added some sugar in the tank every now and then. Maybe once a week. I still maintain an 0-5 ppm nitrate reading.

What are some of the best methods for dealing with red slime?
@danielcook9480
@danielcook9480 7 жыл бұрын
Conch Snails, in my opinion offer an excellent method of red slime removal. I had a situation where my tanks (73 gal bow front) sand was 70% covered with red slime. I added 2 conch snails an d within 2 weeks they had the problem completely under control. I have heard that you need to watch them carefully because if they don't have enough to eat (red slime, cyano, etc) they can die and thus cause a nitrate spike. I haven't had this issue.

BulkReefSupplyCom Hey thanks for the reply! I'm heavily considering using the zeovit setup with the icp testing in the future. I'm just wondering if you replace all trace elements and balance while removing nitrate/phosphate. Is there a heavy need for a regular water change schedule when using icp testing? I know zeovit recommends changing water, but I watched the triton macna presentation and it got me thinking about using them together.

Could you touch on the long-term costs of using Zeovit? What was the grand total for 12 months of little blue bottles? You guys mentioned that zeovit wasn't cheap a few times in past videos, so I'd be curious to know what the reactor, media, special carbon, and actual additives totaled up to. I've been using the KZ Nano Pack to test some of their non-system exclusive supplements on my 90g and I will admit, I'm very impressed with the results, that said those little bottles go REALLY fast. To keep up and continue using is going to cost me. Using the rest of the system must be $$$.
