There are so many fun parts to this video! Not only the always excellent information provided by the BRS Team, but seeing Ryan have to give up all the toys on the tank he likes, only to replace with new fun toys was like watching Christmas happen. I can only imagine how much fun it would be to sit in on these meetings to plan these projects they do for us!

Hi Ryan and BRS team. I just wanted you all to know you've made a Life time customer this past week (how long it took for me to binge watch this series). I have yet to even start this new hobby, but I can't wait to start and share my hopeful success with this awesome community. Thanks for all the great information, entertainment, and enrichment I've received for this hobby. I can't wait to binge watch the rest of your video library, and eventually get my own going.

I did something similar to this a good ten years ago and ended up with a healthy reef and the only inputs were R/O water to account for evaporation. Fish were fed from the fuge, corals were happy and healthy, mandarin dragonet was fat. Worked for me for years despite experienced reefers telling me it was wrong. Looking forward to this followup!

It's awesome that you're taking the time (and expense) of testing various methods. It's a huge benefit to the reefing community. I've been running the Triton system for two years and while it works well, it operates under the same principles of most good reef keeping methods...stability. Your corals might appreciate a slower transition from Zeovit to Triton.

Amazing testings. I have two reef tanks and I haven't done water changes for a year now, I developed the method myself and I can tell that its quite difficult to achieve but not Impossible. At the end of the it requires 10 minutes maintenances 3 times per week, which is is way easier than doing water changes. Good luck

I hope this works out for BRS! The tank already looked amazing and they may be trying to fix something that isn't broken here. I personally know too many seasoned reefers who went this route and crashed their system even though Triton tested everything and they followed their recommendations. Good luck BRS! I hope we see some awesome success with it all. It would also be nice to see you guys carry the new ATI system as well. ATI has been one of the best companies that I have dealt with in this hobby.

I do get why BRS is doing the "test" though. Testing new (really not that new or groundbreaking though) theories and experimenting helps us all. There are local reefers I know who run all of their tanks on tap water and zero water changes. They aren't anything to write home about IMO but they do keep things alive and thriving

sending a test to triton costs 40+ dollars and you can maybe do that once a month. It isnt ment to be the only way of testing your tank but more of a way to see once a few months if you are not accidently building something up or missing something and to see if your simple test results are correct. This tank was doing amazing I hope you dont take to many risks and ruin it :)

Very little bio load there. Should be very easy to maintain. I actually took down my biopellet reactor and realized the bio-film was causing pollution collection in the sump by attracting anything and everything to attach to it and the 180 gallon reef. The tank is cleaner now and the skimmer venturi is not clogging over time restricting its performance.

best of luck. i have seen a video with mike palatta bout he was gojng to use the triton method. then i warched another video in where he gives up the triton method because his sustem was not looking as good as it did before. sorry but it sounds like if you want to get away from water changes then you must have an established tank like 2 years plus. sounds like another product to spend money on that might work. this hobby is not for lazy people. you have to work in this hobby. water changes are the easy part and best part to help your system. hate to see that beautiful tank to crash. i have faith in you all. also with a tank that size you should only be doing water chamgesonce a month or every othermonth. i have a friend that has a 90gal thats been up for over a year and he has done 2 water changes in that year. his acros are growing like crazy.

Huge must do on the C02 subject. There is alot to C02 and it has drastic effects on tank stability and growth that absolutely directly effect corals and many reefers success. The media running out when being used as part of a day to day system will have drastic effects on the system and alone can cause crashes, so the media must be diligently monitored from my experience.

I'm just setting up a 7foot tank and have been getting equipment for it for the last year building up to it . I managed to get a rollermat v2 for it and now I'm thinking of Tritan. I really like the idea of the roller filter and got it for a bargain ... My question is do I really have to not run the roller mat ? My tank is 1000litres . And I have a 175litres refugium. So do I reeeeeeallly have to delete the roller filter??
@BRStv
@BRStv 5 жыл бұрын
To run the Triton method exactly, they would say that you should delete the rollermat. That said, you can certainly run a modified Triton method and keep the rollermat online. Everyone has a little different of an opinion on what sort of filtration you should run, but mechanical filtration is a plus if you ask me.
@Joracollin
@Joracollin 7 жыл бұрын
So you don't need filter socks with the Triton method? Does the large refugium act as the mechanical filtration?
@Joracollin
@Joracollin 7 жыл бұрын
Cool! I wonder if it's possible to do this in a NUVO 40. I already have one of my filter sock compartments converted over to a fuge with a magnafuge light and chaeto. If I converted the other filter sock compartment as well that would double the size of the fuge. I think the limiting factor might be the power of the magnafuge light.
@Guacamole44479
@Guacamole44479 5 жыл бұрын
Why no roller filter? I'm struggling to see the scientific merit on this one. I'm building a custom sump and thinking this flow: drain + roller filter --> skimmer --> refugium w/ chaeto and pods --> return. A skimmer oxygenating the water entering the refugium would prevent anaerobic bacterial blooms in the refugium. Cons of this approach could be detritus in the return pump, and the refugium may not have a lot of macro-nutrients supplied to it. BUT surely nitrates and phosphates - these are tiny molecules that slip through filters and bubbles. A practical solution would be to turn off the roller filter and/or skimmer now and then if the chaeto etc. is not thriving - saves energy, too! Thoughts BRS friends?
