So you should never do it, or limit it to range trips? Seems odd to not be able to do that regularly cause say you were in an extended gunfight, you're not gonna drop the mag, slide, load a fresh mag then rack. Is overseating something that can be avoided with proper technique? Also avoid extended mags I guess.

Great video. I have a 2011 and I have heard of this issue. BUT! I had never seen it and wasn't truly aware of it. I.e. I was not applying it to the way I handle my 2011. Now I do. Thank you. Also, I saw your video because I was researching the Romulus. This video helped me decide to buy one.

I've only ever ran a 1911 with extended mags, and I've never even heard of bending the ejector. But maybe that was because I've made sure to have over prevention tabs/etc on all my mags. (Not that that hasn't stopped me from doing it anyways, to the point of a hard stop mid-comp stage.)

When I shoot my DS 1911s, such as my Hayes, I use a 126 mm magazine. If I use a 140 mag, I attach an appropriate baseplate to prevent over-insertion.

I feel like the bent ejector/over insertion issues with the 2011 shouldn't be as much of an a thing as it is. All it would take is the internal geometry of the grip to taper with the magazine to stop the magazine from being able to impact the ejector which would just take a bit more on the manufacturing side of things but it would stop the damage to a VERY important component. I know Kimber did this on there new 2k11 so it can be done and hopefully becomes the standard for 2011s. Now I am aware that there is a tradeoff with tapering the inside of the grip, that being giving up magazine compatibility (Staccato vs MBX), but I think the trade off of reliability would be worth it.

Do you think it’s possible that prodigy mags added to the failure? I use staccato mags for everything because I had issues with prodigy mags in various 2011s

@@DennisShcherbakov possibly! I did realize on the mags that came with the Romulus (checkmate mags), the 20 round extended also had scuff marks on the lip of the mag where the ejector would be. From my understanding the best way to completely avoid this is to insert the mag with the slide down. Then rack the gun. But it definitely is a possibility. I’m curious to see what Alpha Foxtrot says when they receive the gun and inspect it.

@@dapperthedon flush mag with the magwell. Any extended mags that don’t have extended baseplates can cause this. Best way to COMPLETELY avoid it, is to not do drop slide reloads (slide release reloads). Put the mag in. Rack the gun. By doing that there’s no chance the mag can bend the ejector.
