I'm old, I remember 4 of my uncles and 3 of my aunts served in WW2 for Australia in various roles. They all made it home but wouldn't talk about it much. I know 1 served in the 6th division in Tobruk. 1 served with RAF Bomber Command. The other 2 uncles were in the badly regarded 7th division who defended the Kokoda trail. My Aunts were all based in Australian ports and worked as nurses. They were the most steadfast and real people I've ever met.

Emotions can run the arrange from feeling pride, to being ashamed of their service, just because of their involvement with the death of so many. Both my parents and uncles served in. I very well recognize "The Silence" about WWII mentioned in your comment. In my family NoOne was very willing to speak about WWII. One of my Grandmothers left Germany after WWI, she came to us in The Netherlands. She met my Grandfather and after marriage they would raise 3 Boys and 1 Girl together. Then clouds started turning darker, Hitler & Nazis came up. WWII happened, Germany LOST, and a mysterious Silence occurred Immediately. People from the according age simply kept Silent. In NL All People love to Discuss Anything in Public. We Enjoy our FREEDOM EveryDay ! But some parts of History have been cut out...

These people are aptly described here in America as "the greatest generation." My father also served in WWII first deployed to Morocco in 1942, fought across North Africa, invaded Sicily, the Anzio beach head and on to Rome before traversing Southern Germany and ending the war on the Austrian Czech border. They were indeed our "greatest generation"
@The-Droll-and-LazyJokerАй бұрын
@@richardhack9830 What do you mean by "Germany Lost, and a mysterious silence occurred immediately"? What "mysterious silence"? Most people that left Germany after WW2, were either complicit, and just wanted to get out of "Dodge" ASAP, and therefore would only speak on the subject on very rare occasions, those traumatized as part of Germany's collective shame, from what was done in their name, or just wanted to get away from the devastation and just forget. With reams of books written on WW 2, documentaries, and movies, there is a cornucopia of information on the subject, the only "mysterious silence" are from those individuals who don't want to relive or remember that part of their life. Therefore, there really isn't a "mysterious silence", but only the choice of some individual to remain... silence

Those cars are actually FIAT (now Stellantis) models produced in Italy in the 1960s. When the production was stopped in Italy, the assembly lines were sold to many less developed foreign countries, including Russia, who rebranded the car and continued to produce the same model. It is amazing that after 60 years they are still producing them!!

It should have been a massive humiliation for the communist Soviet Union to acquire outdated capitalistic technology from the West. Just because they could not do it. And even then a car was such a rare good, that only burocrates of the communist party could have one, after years of waiting. For the normal people having a car was just a dream. It was probably at that point that people started to think that the communism has lost the race with capitalism. Look in 1989 what cars had people fleeing from Hungary and East Germany to the West (Trabant). And yet still today, 2024, in many parts of Russia the only affordable car people can actually buy is a model that in the West went out of production in the 1970s.
@JeeGee114Ай бұрын

The Russian factory was built in 1966. The Fiat 124 was also built since 1966. The 124 was car of the year in 1967. So they did not receive outdated production lines such as Romania did get with the Austin Maestro. The Fiat was a very good car at that time.

@@JeeGee114 So they have got first class technology from capitalist Italy. Still a humiliation for the Soviet Union, showing that communism could not match the hated West. To acquire good technology they had to source it from the other side of the iron curtain. Still today Italy's GDP is higher than Russia's, despite Italy being much smaller (less than 1/3 the population, and having almost no raw materials). Italian GDP comes primarily from industrial production (2nd in Europe after Germany), while Russian GDP comes primarily from selling raw materials. They have never been good at producing something.

Former Air Force here. The a-10 cockpit area is a titanium bathtub. I think it's wings and other parts of its structure are sort of a honeycomb design which allows for it to fly even with heavy battle damage. If it's hydraulic system goes out and it has a backup mechanical flight control system. A woman A10 pilot flew one back to base, losing all of its hydraulics apparently after receiving heavy battle damage. You can probably find it somewhere on KZbin.

Just like F-16 the challenge is training, maintenance and supply, assuming A10C would be available (given USAF sunset) and AFU have CAP top cover to protect them. Perhaps ANG have some A10C they can pass on... Unlike F-16, no Allies operate A10C so only US can supply.
@zedwpdАй бұрын
I'm a USAF Major and Mission Crew Commander Air Battle Manager on AWACS and control all US and allied aircraft and use our radar to direct aircraft to and from their targets, tankers, and away from threats. We also keep fighter CAPs (combat air patrol) up to protect the A-10, for as strong as it is against ground targets, its not good against fighter aircraft. A-10s don't even have a radar. But you are right, they do have an entire bullet proof cockpit made with uranium and shaped like a giant bathtub to surround the pilot.

As a former aircraft mechanic for the military, it's funny to hear someone say the A-10 is maybe bulletproof. The plane is literally built around the cannon and the titanium bathtub surrounding the cocktail. Those cockpits can take direct hits from 20-30mm anti aircraft rounds and missle hits and not be penatrated. There are situations from desert storm of them having 1 of the wings or an engine shot off and flying to base. They are literally a flying tank. It would take multiple hits to bring 1 down
@lonpfrbАй бұрын
Unfortunately the Stinger MANPAD or similar do allow Infantry to threaten A10 which wasn't the case initially. USAF did the A10C model upgrade to keep them relevant but what exactly model C does remains classified. I'm guessing radar warning receiver and electronic warfare countermeasures as laser designation is very hard on an aircraft that flies so low and agile.

25 of 25 (97-100) On January 1, 2025, the contract for gas supplies from Russia ends, which Ukraine is not going to continue, which will lead to even greater inflation, shortages and rising gas prices, as well as the need to look for opportunities to supply alternative expensive liquefied natural gas by sea. But by the end of 2024, Ukraine has already faced prohibitively high phased tax increases for the population, small and medium-sized businesses, inflation and a sharp devaluation of the hryvnia, but even this is not enough to repay debts of $ 160 billion and finance military operations. Half of the working population is starving on income from their salaries, not like in rich Russia. Zelensky turned Ukraine into a colony of the West, which will pay him accumulated debts with interest for centuries. The country's valuable natural resources have partially become the property of foreign companies. Europe has long created a cemetery for its nuclear waste in Ukraine, and now it is also disposing of hundreds of thousands of tons of garbage on our territory so as not to pollute its own soil and underground drinking water sources. In case he was forced to hold banned elections, Zelensky allowed voting by mail and via the Internet in order to falsify the results of the voters' vote. Vladimir Zelensky has become the most hated president for his people in the entire history of Ukraine! Sooner or later, Ukraine's top officials will have to answer for abandoning the peace plan signed with Russia in March 2022, when the war could have been stopped, leaving behind the territories of Donbass, retaken in 2014 after part of the east separated from Ukraine due to disagreements with the new political leadership. If there had not been a coup in 2014, Russia would not have agreed to help the eastern regions that wanted to secede from Ukraine. The Ukrainian authorities should have abandoned NATO and stopped shelling the lost lands for the sake of peace and avoiding the threat of war with Russia. But Biden, who heads European leaders, forced Ukrainians to fight, using the sold-out Zelensky and the parliamentary majority of his Servant of the People faction as puppets. In addition to Western rulers, Zelensky and his team are very afraid of nationalist organizations from Western Ukraine (funded by Western patrons), who will not forgive the country's leadership for losing the war and peace negotiations on the terms of ceding part of Ukrainian lands. In addition to personal hostility, Western Ukraine considers the Russian-speaking eastern half of its country to be second-class people. Most Easterners want to be part of Russia. Democrats from the USA demand the full mobilization of men in our country, but they do not understand that at least one in four Ukrainians holds pro-Russian views. In addition, the state has nothing to arm and equip soldiers with. If Ukraine returned the disputed lands, then radical far-right extremists would get even with the servicemen and their families who fought for independence from Ukraine of the newly formed republics, and for their desire to join Russia. In addition, the punitive authorities of Ukraine would put almost half of the population behind bars for separatism. In 2025, after the weakening of Ukraine, it will be very difficult to persuade the leadership in the Kremlin to peace talks without attempts to return Russian-speaking Ukrainian cities to the Russian Federation. After three years of war, the assistance of foreign partners has sharply decreased, but without their support, the inevitable collapse of the front is expected. If Russia can be persuaded to stop fighting now, when Ukraine has significant territories and residents living on them, sufficient for possible future counter-offensives. Then, after 2029, the Kremlin risks that Democrats may come to power in America again, who will want to surround the borders of the Russian Federation with foreign military bases in order to impose the will of the United States on the Russian State Duma. The war is being waged for the possibility of NATO's expansion to the east, for which the pro-Western Ukrainian authorities are ready to sacrifice more than half a million lives of Ukrainians and lose a significant part of the territories. If the parliamentary majority wanted to keep most of its territories, it would have long ago agreed to the Kremlin's repeated peace proposals, retaining most of the disputed lands for itself. Millions of people have nowhere to live, they have lost their homes and property, their cities have been destroyed. More than ten million people became impoverished during the war. If we count the funds spent by both sides, then over the last 3 years of the war, when Zelensky systematically refused to negotiate, provided that the current border line was preserved; then for every family that lost their homes, the opposing countries could build a palace instead of spending money on weapons, but for the Verkhovna Rada it is much more important to join NATO. If Russia agrees, Ukraine will be accepted into the alliance without the fifth article, then Ukrainians will partially replace the personnel of the NATO armed forces and will protect the interests of foreign states, and they, in turn, are not obliged to defend Ukraine in case of an attack. At the same time, no foreign military bases will be deployed on the territory of Ukraine. This is presented to the people of our country as a victory, but in fact it is a triumph of the top of the Kremlin. Well, while the war is going on, the staff of military enlistment offices, together with the police, take men to war against their will, recognizing almost all fit for military service, the border is closed for men. If you do not believe this, then read the interview of an employee of the military enlistment office in the British edition of The Telegraph. Losses at the front are huge, and the mobilization deficit is growing. At the end of the year, the Verkhovna Rada approved a law allowing the mobilization of women who have undergone military training, which has become mandatory for teenagers of both sexes. Zelensky is a sold-out puppet of the West, his authorities are corrupt, they do not benefit their people! They steal billions from the military and state budget, but the main theft is due to assistance provided by foreign partners, which has long exceeded the country's annual budget by half. Even officials turn into oligarchs. Another New Year's corruption scandal: the American company Sinclair & Wilde, which supplied military uniforms and textiles to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, did not receive $ 14.5 million for the fulfillment of five contracts and faced the demand for numerous bribes from high-ranking persons. Representatives of USA and Sinclair & Wilde handed over confidential information to the National Police of Ukraine, including evidence that refutes the accusations against the company. Only by contacting the national police, its corrupt superiors facilitated the leak of details of the investigation to the former head of the procurement department of the Ministry of Defense Maxim Gritsenko and others, which endangered the lives of witnesses and helped prepare the defense. Moreover, representatives of the law have opened a counter criminal case against an American company on fraud and the production of products at inflated prices. Or read the official UN report on torture in the gyms and basements of the SBU in Kiev under the totalitarian Zelensky regime. All the time the suspects were in captivity, they were blindfolded, given food once a day, and water was given only in small quantities. The detainees slept on the floor, they were forbidden to stand or communicate. The UN claims that people in Ukraine were often detained to force them to confess or testify against themselves. Those caught confessed to what they had not done, under pressure and fear. Up to 70 people, mostly men, were in custody at the same time. Artyom Dmytruk, president of the Ukrainian Professional Boxing League in Odessa, complained: "In March 2022, I was in exactly the same basement, only in Odessa. People there were systematically beaten, strangled, tortured with tasers, put cellophane bags on their heads, and some were killed." The dictatorship and total control of the punitive authorities under Zelensky make it possible to crack down on active oppositionists. Also, now law enforcement agencies have the right to sue to close any business if they don't like something, for example, the owners refuse to share profits with them. After the end of the existence of the Soviet Union, all the constituent republics still live poorer than in those days. If a parliament comes to power in these countries that wants to have close relations with the Russian Federation, then a few years later a coup d'etat often takes place, which only leads to even greater poverty and the establishment of harsh authorities dependent on the will of the USA, Europe strangles such states with sanctions. America loves to organize useful revolutions around the world. After the collapse of the socialist republics, the Soviet currency depreciated, people lost all their deposits and savings, they worked for several years in a row only for food rations, and wages were delayed for more than a year. Residents began to face unemployment and low levels of social assistance. However, today the funded media only talk about how bad it was under communism. Past generations were brought up in the spirit of high morality, morality and responsibility, they did not grow up to be greedy egoists, which is the majority of the modern population today. Such a society can lead the world to a global catastrophe. Well, the year 2024 is coming to an end, I am already tired of writing about the injustice that is happening in Ukraine, and I want to focus on publishing what I have written. Let this be the last entry. I wish you all peace, happiness and goodness!

I want to share a fond memory with all the pilots out there. I lived in a cattle ranch in montana 1/2 my childhood. We had a missile silo installed on our land. Almost every day jets would fly over. Security, I imagine. At least once a week one would fly over breaking the sound barrier. It never disappointed. Always left me in aww. Ride the thunder!😊 Merry Christmas all!

Denis, you are a beast. Merry Stuff. I do not want to offend you so you don't send an F-16 at me. You are doing God's work. Keep it up. Thank you from the Okanogan Highlands.
