Hello, I’m currently processing my NCLEX application in NY. In the form 1 and on the personal information part the first name cannot exceed more than 15 letters. I have 2 first names and it has 16 letters. What should I do? I can’t proceed with my application with my name exceeding the limit.

If I were you, you have 2 choices, only put your first name and get rid of the second or put your 2 first names but disregard the 16th letter. If still your not satisfied, then you can email NYSED what to do 😊

Yes you can 😊 Paying the $200 USD to register with Pearson Vue doesn’t need ATT. Scheduling the NCLEX however, needs ATT from your State/Provincial Board of Nursing. Hope this helps 🤞I do advise to register first with Pearson Vue while waiting for your ATT.

What suggestion can you advise of I am not ready yet to take NClex in 3 months time? From some article I read once your got your ATT you are given 90 days to schedule the exam?

The expiration date of your ATT will be shown on your ATT confirmation via email sent by NYSED. You need to follow up them though since they are overwhelmed with many applicants around the world. Make sure you have scheduled your NCLEX before your ATT expires. It is usually 75 to 90 days expiration. Just a heads up, with NYSED, you can take unlimited NCLEX if ever you fail on your first attempt. If ever you fail, you can retake it after 45 days or 8 attempts per year. NYSED doesn’t require applicants to pay again application fee with them if they are unsuccessful on their attempt. Just inform them you need an ATT again.

You don’t need SSN to apply. If you don’t have SSN and you applied for RN registration, make sure you finished the steps until payment section or else you cannot save and access your progress without SSN. Hope this helps ☺️

Hi, not necessarily. Use the Credentials Verification for New York State by CGFNS. This is the required service by CGFNS for those non-US graduates who wants licensure to practice/work in the State of New York. Current fee is $400 USD

NYSED doesn’t process US VISA application forms. In order to work as RN in New York State or in other states, you must have a VISA SCREEN Certificate from CGFNS International. This is a mandatory requirement from the the US Department of Homeland Security and will be checked by the US customs and border protection (UCBP) once you enter the US on a working visa. The VISA SCREEN certificate is only required if you are on working visas such as HB1 (for all foreign nationals) or TN visa for citizens of Canada and Mexico only. Check the info on how to get a VISA SCREEN certificate on the CGFNS Int’l website. Thanks

You can only have one SSN number for life. So you can use it. If you still have questions regarding your SSN, call Social Security Administration office or you can visit in-person as well. Regarding your second question, with NYSED they don’t require applicants to be a Registered Nurse in their country or jurisdiction, so educational credentials from their Nursing school are enough, however, being an RN helps a lot in the process and especially if CGFNS has evaluated your documents already and submitted to NYSED (Credentials Verification for New York State - CVS).

Name is very important. Any misspelled name on any application especially applying for a license should be rectified immediately to avoid identification problems in the future. Make sure you have the correct name in the application. Thanks

How long the process going to take?

It will depend on the number of applications received by NYSED office of the professions. The more applications, the more tedious it will be. Complete applications will be processed in the order it was received. Only complete applications are processed. Incomplete applications will not be processed so make sure everything has been submitted to them. You can check the timeline on NYSED’s website regarding applications being processed. It is usually done by batch.

Not exactly but recommended as declaring your RN license in the country of your jurisdiction will help your application get approved by NYSED, however, there were other applicants that were not RN’s in their country who got approved by NYSED. It will depend on your application and situation.

Hi there, you need to apply online on the NYSED website. The application fee is $143 USD inclusive of your first registration as RN in New York State. Once you are in, they will ask a couple of information that you need to fill out. They will also ask for documents that you need to upload. Please be advised, NYSED don’t require Social Security Number (SSN) when applying, however, if you don’t have SSN, you must complete the application from start to finish up until paying the application fee as you can’t save your progress and return to your application. In order to save your progress and return to where you stopped, you must have SSN. You can also upload documents at a later date using your application number and DOB. Infection Control and Child Abuse courses can be done after you submitted and paid your application. Again, if you don’t have SSN you must start and finish through the payment section of the application or else you must start again from scratch. Thanks
