Hi Gid. This may possibly be helpful. Here in New Zealand I got myself a compressed air dive bottle and it's harness. I get it filled up and I can take my staple and pin guns, Bostich like your 50 mm one, and my Senco stapler on site without a compressor. I have a reducing valve on the bottle to keep the pressure the same as my workshop pressure. It works a treat and isn't that heavy on your back. One fill lasts 4 or 5 weeks depending on usage. Just a thought.

Hi Gid, I must be very old, my cordless nailer had a steel head and a wooden handle, It would handle any size of nail from 1/2" to 4" plus didn't need a compressor, and was easy to carry around, but I must admit it wasn't as fast !!! Great videos love watching a master at work, take care buddy.

When I saw you had a milwaukee gun on the other video I thought you had come to the dark side, then I realised it was the narrow crown, every mention of that makita gun seems to be negative (that I've seen anyway), but the milwaukee 18g is a beast, I've had mine for a couple of years now and its great, never once had a misfire, I'm sure it will serve you well.

Thanks Matt, that's good to know 👍👍, yeah i think Makita are letting themselves down putting these nailguns out, i bought a Makita air 18g that was on offer so i could have another gun just for the shed, never used it, it was crap, wish i'd spent a bit more on another Bostitch, I found out i guess why the Makita was on offer 🤦‍♂️🤣👍

Hi,Gid. I'm Makita guy, but when we talking about the nail guns only Milwaukee second generation. Have a 16g old DeWalt, absolute beast,have a 18g total nightmare. Splitted 6 times myself,once in profesional repair shop. Still won't work properly,plus doesn't sink the nails. Never ever. On list 23g,18g,stapler and 1st fix all from Milwaukee. Personally thinking they are the best. Hikoki last generation guns performs pretty good as well. Must say you got a good grip on cordless tools, bloody expensive( especially when you paid and realized how bad they are made) but hard to beat them. Good luck, pleasure to watch you!
@Gidjoiner
@Gidjoiner 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, normally my first choice is Makita for quality & good engineering but their nail guns let them down, don't know if you're talking about the Dewalt not sinking the nails, but the framer was poor when i tested it so that put me off Dewalt a bit, that fraction of a pause when you pull the trigger to it ramping up to fire & the depth the nail went in, it just managed to put a 90mm ring nail in flush, but a lot were just proud, , that's why i bought the Hikoki framer, instant firing & full proper depth penetration, apart from not wanting another battery system in the van the poor performance of the Dewalt framer meant i didn't even really consider it for this 18g, as in the vid i already had the Milwaukee stapler so had the batteries & charger. 👍 Thankyou Tomas, keep well, I'll have more to come as n when it gets made 👍😊

Hi Gid, I have the SENCO Fusion 18g pin gun which can do 50mm pins which I've fired 15,000+ pins over the past few years and it's never failed to fire or jam. It has a sealed Nitrogen gas cell so when you fire it it just get put back through the system into the cell so no gas to replace etc but also no "ramp up time" which many guns have. It will fire as quick as you can pull the trigger and also has a sequential option so fires on contact. Can't reccommend them enough. Hope the Millwaukee serves you well.Can't beat Bostitch for air guns, had them for years.
@Gidjoiner
@Gidjoiner 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I had a look at those, it looked very similar to the Milwaukee, sequential option etc.. 😏 thanks yep i'm aware of the Nitrogen & immediate readiness to fire, that's one of the reasons why i bought the Hikoki framing nailer as opposed to the Dewalt, when you pull the Dewalt trigger there's a moment when it prepares to fire, the Hikoki fires instantly then resets, (also the Hikoki puts the nail head below the wood, The Dewalt doesn't even do that sometimes) 👍 I'd already got the Milwaukee stapler so had the charger & batteries too
@jamesbruce3105
@jamesbruce3105 2 жыл бұрын
They tech isn't quite there yet with Makita cordless nailers. They are essentially a two handed tool and you need the palm of your non-dominant hand on the back of it to channel the recoil back into the shot to sink the nails. Glad the Milwaukee is working for you, but yeah it is a bit cumbersome.
@Gidjoiner
@Gidjoiner 2 жыл бұрын
yeah i don't think Makita should be putting these out until they've got one that is competitive, I'll still buy Makita but the air nailer i bought yrs ago as a second just for the shed was crap, i should've bought another Bostitch & now this poor nailer i won't be buying theirs again unless they come up with something amazing, n yeah hopefully this Milwaukee will do it's job well for some time to come. Thanks 👍

I really love this style of video Gid. I wish you could do one with your drill drivers and impact drivers. 👏🏻👍🏻
@Gidjoiner
@Gidjoiner 2 жыл бұрын
👍👍 I've always had two drill/drivers, one for drilling the other for driving, had 4 brands in 37yrs, Makita & Hilti, they did more than fine, I killed a few Dewalts during the 90s & early 2000s, that put me off them a bit so went back to Makita, my ½" chuck driver got nicked, bit skint at the time so i looked & bought a Bosch 18v with a high Nm torque spec, i still have that, still use it & it's fine, on the Bosch battery route i bought the jigsaw, love that, it's the one you still see me use 12+yrs later, since then i've got other Bosch stuff, the planer & SDS i like... but Makita are my first choice & there were a few tools i didn't want Bosch, trimmer router, multisaw... so since replacing the track saw for cordless i've been on that slippery slope, I've a few Bosch drills, one of which is 110Nm 😮💪 & i've bought a few Makita, PS. the little Bosch circular saw is small & light but when i cut the staircase strings it reminded me that 45mm is at it's max so i bought a Makita RS001GZ 40V MAX circular saw.. Tools 🤸‍♂️🤸‍♂️🤸‍♂️🤣👍 we'll see i might make a vid one day, but can't compare what i've got to modern versions of other brands 👍

Yeah, if you watch the pergola build i buy a Bosch 85C drill for tightening nuts & for coach screws, that one i bought was 85Nm , I later found out they did a 110Nm, Bosch 110C, bought one cos.... had to have it, the handle that comes with it to stop you breaking your wrist is massive, 10"-ish 💪😮 & the neck of the drill where it mounts is ribbed to stop it slipping round 😂😂 brushless too so less chance f burning them out 👍

Hi, yeah i suspect in a yr or two there'll be a whole new range of them, I can't get a Hikoki, I'm glad it works for you but they've stopped making the 18g, I've got the 15g & 16g, but i tried out the Milwaukee 15g & 16g 65mm nails on the triple stacked Beech, the Milwaukee beat the Hikoki's, The Hikoki's are fine on softwood & very much doubt i'll be firing into solid hardwood, so we'll see if i get spare spending money, but like i say I'm fairly happy with what i've got for the mo,,,, do like new toys tho 🤸‍♂️🤸‍♂️🤸‍♂️😂 Thanks & yep i'll upload as n when i can 👍

Hey Gid I think you made the right decision in buying the milwaukee over the hikoki 18g I bought both the 18 g and framing gun and both are broken lying in the van, also the 18 g was very similar to the makita not firing all the way even on hard mdf, 8 ended up buying the 18g dewalt and it's very good. @Gidjoiner 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, got to be honest i was & still am a bit dubious about buying Milwaukee, I had/have a Milwaukee drill, worst drill i've had in 30+yrs, the light stayed on so the battery ran down, the brake stopped working & the vent was on the back, i know i shouldn't but every joiner/builder uses the butt end as a hammer occasionally so I broke through that vent easily, I'm going to fix that drill with the sledge hammer, hopefully Milwaukee have come along since i bought that driver, hope yours do well too 👍 I use TurboCAD Platinum, it's a CAD program, this ones quite expensive but the cheaper options i've had in the past all have worked in a similar way, I've a few boring vids about it, don't know if this link will work, if not search TurboCAD on my page 👍 kzbin.info/www/bejne/bX-6ioJojZqJfa8

I've never used Sketchup but apparently you might find it easier, there's prob more help vids online, & if you're presenting it to clients 3D would help, I send my clients copies of these 2D drawings but i mainly use CAD for my own basic plans & have used it for 20yrs so i'm a bit stuck with + i can use it fairly easily, no need to change, CAD is a universally used program for pretty much most engineering productions, but i believe Sketchup is becoming more widely used & is bit more user friendly,

Hi Gid, I really enjoy watching your videos and have learnt quite a lot, so thanks for the time and effort you put into making them. I am thinking of buying a 16 gauge nail gun, would you recommend the Hikoki or the Miwaukee? I have the Hikoki framer. Also, is there any real advantage to getting the angled ones, I don't think I'll be needing to get into any tight corners.
@Gidjoiner
@Gidjoiner 2 жыл бұрын
Hi & thanks 👍 That's why i make them so that's good to hear & I'm glad you've learnt from them, I've been using the Milwaukee more than the Hikoki, i do prefer the angled style, it's easier to get into some areas like at the bottom of something where a straight nailer might not fit so easily but there's not much in it, if you have the Hikoki you have to consider batteries & chargers, you already have the /Hikoki, the 18g Milwaukee has been a bit of a pain misfiring, but that's down to the way the magazine works, the 16g is quite different & much more reliable, I have both Hikoki & Milwaukee in the van tho so i've got the choice of which to use, , I haven't had either long enough to spk about longevity, Milwaukee i think are a bit overrated & I think there's a bit of US patriotism in a lot of the online reviews that overrides the truth, they're a bit like Festool in that way, highly praised, good but not without their faults, & cordless nailguns are still fairly new on the market so it's a little bit of a gamble with any of the brands, 👍🤷‍♂️😂👍

Yep I can't vouch for their longevity but I had a play with the 15g & 16g today, they worked better than my Hikoki 15g & 16g, in this vid i fired into 3 pieces of 20mm Beech stacked = 60mm, my Hikoki & the Milwaukee 15g & 16g both can fire a max size nail of 65mm, the Hikoki left the head of the 65mm nail poking out 10mm when fired into the 60mm Beech, the Milwaukee just about put the 65mm nail flush, some were 2-3mm sticking out, but generally the Milwaukee was better 👍👍 😂 I don't need to buy Milwaukee 16g & 15g & i won't be firing 65mm nails into hardwood, the Hikoki's do softwood no prob but........ might have to go shopping when there's cash 😂😂😂😂😂😂, yeah you won't be disappointed 👍

Hi, thankyou I'm glad you get something from my vids, that's the only reason i make them 👍 As you've seen i've a few different guns, all have their own benefits but the one i use most is 18g, that's the size of the ones in this vid, 15g & 16g are bigger & so leave a bigger hole in the wood, a lot of my pinning/nailing also involves glue, so the pins are often there to hold it while the glue dries, There's a few cheaper brands, those i can't comment on, a few people on here have mentioned Ryobi & how good it is, i can't give an honest reply to those ether, Ryobi isn't a professional tool & will die sooner than expected, Ryobi will never be in my van 😂 call me a snob but from my experience buy cheap & you buy twice, buy a good brand & you might have it for life, take my Makita routers, 25+yrs working professionally & still going strong, saying that this Makita 18g nailer is a bit poor & overpriced for it's performance, So depending on budget the Ryobi might do you well for a couple of yrs & you can see how it goes, pay more money & get this Milwaukee, Dewalt is a similar price but i can't comment on them, never used one, & if you have a workshop or don't mind carrying a small compressor to the job like i have for yrs, then get the Bostitch, it beats all the other cordless guns by quite a bit, performance, size & price. Have you upgraded much to makita mate? I’ve phased a lot of Dewalt gear out with makita lately. Would like festoon but dunno how it holds up on site
@Gidjoiner
@Gidjoiner 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes sort of, I've wanted to go totally cordless for ages, I tried sticking to Bosch because the ones i have are quite good & i wanted as few chargers as poss, some tools i didn't want to replace with Bosch tho, i wanted Makita like the corded ones i have, so after replacing the track saw with the cordless i've been buying what i can, but although Makita is normally my first choice for tools I have to get whatever brands do hopefully the best, The Hikoki framer is the best i'd tried that wasn't battery + gas. The Milwaukee replaces the Bostitch narrow crown stapler i have, Milwaukee seemed to be the only one i could find, it's a bit big but it does the job no prob, good positive action 👍 I considered the 18g Hikoki but it has a fat nose, there's not a lot of choice on the market tho for some things, either big with a fat nose or smaller with a narrow nose like this Makita nailer but not quite enough power 🤷‍♂️ Festool - over rated & yeah i don't think they will last too long on site, they're not perfect like you'd expect from the 'wonderful' expensive Festool. my KS120 mitresaw does cut nice & sq but the fence i had to add Ali tape to stop it wobbling, the air vent is on the top so it collects dust, i have to blow it out often & i suspect that's why the motors burn out on site, & the channelling stop only lets the blade come up about 30mm from the base, meaning you can't put a 10mm deep groove/channel in the top of a piece of 2-3" timber, I need to check that but it is def limited, Haven't got Dewalt because i don't want another charger but this Makita nailer is 40v - so another charger 🤦‍♂️😂
@NE-locksmith
@NE-locksmith 2 жыл бұрын
@@Gidjoiner haha yeah I’m looking at the 40v hopefully they make a dual charger. I have the hikoki battery framing gun too replaced my paslode. It’s a cracking gun too.
@Gidjoiner
@Gidjoiner 2 жыл бұрын
I have an adaptor for the 40v, never used it so i think it's so you can charge 18v with the same charger... i'll have a look, I have the 15g & 16g Hikoki too, i didn't show them in this vid but their max nail is 65mm, firing into this 3x20mm stacked Beech the nail head doesn't go all the way in, it sticks out 10mm 😒50mm nails go all the way in tho, I know someone with the 15g & 16g Milwaukee which i'm going to play with & see. 🤷‍♂️ the Hikoki are fine on softwood though & i prob will never be firing 65mm nails into hardwood, 😂

I swear the Lidl, parkside nail gun I bought does a better job than the makita 🤨 (still have to punch a few nails in mind)…. That Milwaukee tool though 👀 looks the business! No way I’m justifying that to the missus as a DIY’er!….. “but I’ll need to maybe make a birdhouse or something in like 4 years time 🤷‍♂️”… 🤔

Yeah,, I was hoping for more from Makita, i have their air 18g, bought a 2nd one so i could have the Bostitch in the van & another in the shed, but it's crap, used it a few times n it got put under the bench, should've just got a second Bostitch 🤷‍♂️ I've turned to using the 16g Milwaukee, had problems with this 18g with 50mm pins jamming, the firing pin only just retracts enough for the next pin to move into place, no ridge in the cartridge to stop the nail strip lifting so as the pin retracted it lifts the strip n so jams, you'll see when i get some videos done, the 16g tho has a different magazine n fires no prob 👍

I'm a massive Makita fan but their nailers are poor, it's an old design they've adapted for that 40v battery. I've got the DeWalt 16ga,it's better than the Makita but still not great. So plasticy and cheap feeling, like a lot of DeWalt stuff
@Gidjoiner
@Gidjoiner 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah Makita is my first choice normally but the air nailer i bought & now this don't do Makitas rep any good, if you can't provide a tool as good a quality as the rest of your products then simply don't, A lot of my Dewalt stuff is quite long lasting but as you say, it's a bit plasticy, that's why i prefer Makita for the more accurate tools,

Thanks Ross, & i still appreciate you & everyone that did donate so thankyou again, Covid's been a bit of a weird couple of yrs, I got it in Nov which slowed me down a bit, then winter came, not filming as much because it's been hard to organise things, so had to concentrate on getting the work done & paying bills, but with the van I've kept working, it's been something i haven't had to worry bout 👍 & since replacing the track saw for cordless i've been on the Makita slippery slope & replaced a few of my corded tools. yep I've an assortment of brands 👍 I never have advertised, always have a couple of mths work ahead of me & because everything got delayed 2020 covid if i booked all work in, this yr would be filled 👍😁 (Should really be saving my money for the days the van does need work on it & i don't end up in the pickle i did a couple of yrs ago,, but i need these tools to work 😏)

The Bostich are over 15yrs old maybe 20, I can afford to buy a tool each mth but on ones like this Makita it takes a couple of mths, or as in this alcove job i can afford the Milwaukee, i already had the batteries n charger so the gun wasn't much, I sold my Paslodes yrs ago, they were on their third set of batteries, & battery + gas was a pain, the Paslode framing nailer i had wouldn't work well in the winter, i had 16g & 18g but they grew old n like i say having gas all the time was a pain, Hitachi? they're now Hikoki or Metabo, I've the Hikoki framer which i like, bit heavy but works well, the Hikoki 16g & 15g, they're ok, not the best but do the job well enough,

Basically now I use the Milwaukee 16g or the 15g for thicker stuff & the makita 18g for thinner or Pine/ply stuff
