Alyssa I think Melbourne climate very similar to SF Bay Area. I agree with you the trees love our cooler seasons compared to summer where the heat can sometimes damage the leaves. It is nice to see the CA cultivars Bacon, Reed, Hass, Lamb, Pinkerton all doing well in Melbourne. The Australian cultivar in CA I’m Aware of is Sharwil and it does quite well here where I’m At. Thank you for showing us all your trees.

@@alyssastropicalfruittrees5754 In California the West Indian types don't do well because it isn't very humid here. So it's interesting to see West Indian and Guatemalan types side by side. A lot of those varieties like Shepherd and Post Office we can't even get here.

If you loose any avocados I recommend you replace it with a mexicola.

Why do you have such heavy duty metal screen protecting the ground below your fruit trees? Do you have problems with animals digging into it?

I presume you are a home gardener, not a commercial grower. I am curious why you plant so many avocado trees, 20+, with multiple trees of the same variety, especially Lamb. I would think 2-3 good size mature trees would produce more fruits than can be eaten by a family. :)
@geobioexploringadventures2 жыл бұрын
Melbourne is not too cold for avocados, even in winter. Supposedly the average low for winter months in Melbourne is around 45F. Most avocado varieties can tolerate down to around 32F. Seedling trees are more cold sensitive, but large mature trees would do just fine for short periods of freezing below 32F.

@@alyssastropicalfruittrees5754 Hi Alyssa, on the other question, I am still curious why you planted about 6 trees of Lamb. I would understand the reasoning for many varieties and many trees to make your channel more interesting, but instead of Lamb, you could have diversified to other good varieties, such as Nabal, Ardith, Jan Boyce, Holiday, Nimlioh, Hellen, Edranol, Murrieta Green, Green Gold, Kahulu'u, Beshore, Fujikawa, Yamagata, etc. Some of these varieties should be available in Australia.

Hi@@geobioexploringadventures We got 6 trees of Lamb Hass because : first they are semi dwarf and second fruit bigger then Hass and very nice flavour 😁 Another verity you say some doesn’t have In Melbourne, we grow Avocado all verities we love 💕 if we haven’t try we don’t buy yet😁

Hi Mark Taylor My tips are seasol 1 a month Fertilizer 3 time a year protect from hot day and make sure you stake the trunk and the branches so when the heavy wind it doesn’t disturb the roots 😊 Thanks for spending the time watching and supporting🙏

I recommended not planting avocado trees a lot. They are water hungry trees and can get your land very dry unless you have a lot of water.
