I like the look of of the flex,and the aqua sky light, but filter may be difficult to maintain at the rear, also the intakes look too big for baby shrimp/fish. The Rio, internal filter will it cycle the water well being at one end of the tank, I guess this tank would be easier to clean and plant/scape with the filtration not being in the centre of the tank? I didn’t want to get a small tank only to want to upgrade in 12 months time. I do dislike algae though as I have a pond which is a nightmare to keep on top of. Would you recommend the tank stand or use oak side board, much chance of water damage? Cheers 👍
@GEORDIESCAPER4 жыл бұрын
@@davesaxon7348 i can only go off the flex 57 filter and it's really easy to maintain. The Juwel filter isn't very good, first thing i did was remove the filter housing (large knife, stanley blade and white vinegar to clean off silicone). It's extra cost but i would highly recommend an external filter (oase biomaster thermo 600) for juwel 180. My favourite filter, maintenence is a breeze and heater is built in. The new Juwel stands are good quality and great in my opinion.

@@GEORDIESCAPER hi Gordie I think all the tanks look great specially the 240 the contrast between the rock and gravel looks fab, hope you don't mind I've set up a nano cube &now have some small maggots ,quite a lot they crawl up and down the glass, I've only got a couple of cherry shrimp &2nitrate snails in the tank any ideas how to get rid of them?do you think they could have been in the substrate? Would be grateful for any advice, thankyou
@GEORDIESCAPER4 жыл бұрын
@@robandrews5549 thankyou🙏hard to say for certain, if they're tiny thin, white and worm like. Very common and nothing to worry about. Big water changes and siphon them out as you see them is my advice. Probably best looking for a more specific remedy through forums, and searches.

Great to see your tanks doing so well. I am struggling with two of my tanks having lost all fish in both tanks for not apparent reason. Only thing could be stress related but with lockdown have held off doing anything. But your tanks do give me inspiration to go forward. Keep up the good work!!!

Thanks David. Horrible when you lose fish, hapoened to me a few months back in my flex, lost shrimp and most of my Black Phantom Tetra. I assumed there was sometging wrong with the water out of the tap (maybe water company had been doing something nearby).

Really dont know how I missed this till now,3 stunning and different tanks Mark(tough to pick a fav tbh),very impressive,it's clear that you put in the graft required to keep them looking their best,newbies to the hobby should take note of the 2x weekly water changes /tank, you dont get results like the big fella has(thats you Mark) without some effort. Well done ace,love your vids. Stay safe Scapz,the end is in sight !!! eta- I also like that your local fish store (Horizon) has helped you out,so big chuck up for them as well. ps- whats the light on the Nano Mark,

@@GEORDIESCAPER I’m getting a 240 this week and just wondering if the internal filter heater would do the trick. Nice one 👍🏼
@GEORDIESCAPER4 жыл бұрын
Personally I don't like the internal filter, took mine straight out. Ok if you're lightly decorating with a small amount of fish but not strong enough in my opinion for a planted tank with a good number of fish.

@@GEORDIESCAPER Sorry I didn’t explain very well, I’m getting a canister filter and want a built in heater, to try and keep the equipment out of the aquarium. The biomaster looks a good filter but wasn’t sure if the built in heater in the 350 would be powerful enough. But if your running on one heater it answered the question. I Watched the pong gurus video on the media and foam ideas, did you change yours around? Cheers
@GEORDIESCAPER4 жыл бұрын
@@davesaxon7348 sorry think I was a bit tired when I read and wrote that haha. No harm in doing it the pond guru way. Mine has the sponge that comes with it bottom tray and the rest Seachem Matrix. I purchased the Oase orange sponges for the prefilter which are more coarse and don't reduce the flow as quick (breeze to clean the prefilter).

Hello mate, how do you find the frogbit holds up with the lid and the condensation?

Tanks looking great. Quick question, in your Rio 240 you have a Biomaster 350, would you recommend that size for a 200 litre tank where it is the only filter?
@teaforthree14 жыл бұрын
David Barnett Borderline. Get the 600 if you can afford it. Can’t have too much filtration and the flow is only slightly stronger

Hi, new to the hobby. I’m thinking of getting either juwel Rio 180-125 or a flex 123. Which would you recommend for a planted aquarium. Cheers

i wanted to ask what is the purpose of having 2 external filters ? isnt that to much or ? i am soon getting a 240 tank aswell. just wanted to know why you have that thanks.
@GEORDIESCAPER4 жыл бұрын
In a fully planted tank I like to aim for 10 times the turnover better circulation around the tank, more room for bio media. More filtration the better in my experience. Also if one filter fails for some reason you still have one running.
