Update on my D13 volvo. What symptoms of two burnt valves

I have a 2012 Volvo and I love it . Every truck owner should accept the fact that all trucks break down . Unless it’s a lemon it costs you about 30-35k$ a year to own a truck . It will either be the payment and general maintenance for a brand new one or payment and various repairs all the time for a used one .

We see a lot more issues with the D13 in our motorcoach applications primarily because of the necessity to idle them exponentially more than trucks do. If a motorcoach has a D13 in it I’d bet $100 the check engine light is on. It seems every coolant fitting on them love to leak coolant as well. It’s quieter, smoother,and doesn’t leak oil as bad as a Series 60 but I’d still prefer the 12.7 Detroit any day over the D13 Volvo.

765,000 miles on my 2017 d13 and the only expensive parts changed were the def pump, water pump, and 2 nox sensors. Runs like new. If you take care of those Volvo's they'll treat you good.

960,000 on my 2015 D13. The turbo, injectors, air compressor, etc etc is still original. It runs like a champ

Bought at 540k for 20k 2015 Volvo D13 now at 820k miles had to replace transmission, turbo and crank case breather now having to do head but still good

2017 volvo d13 auto 100k injectors 150k def pump 200k tranny module not shifting Radiation recently Rad cap on the side Nox sensors 5 times Com module 4000$ Timing whatever gaskets 50hrs job Clutch changed at 740k km Pipes,hoses etc. Dpm sensor just last week. 650$ Many more to list. I've got a lemon. Still love her..

Man, you have had some bad luck with them. I run 13 mack MP8s. They are 2011 and 2012s. They range from hi 400s to mid 700s milage wise. Radiators, water pumps and 7th injectors are about all the issues I have had. The MP8 is basically the same engine as the Volvo DD13. BTW, love the videos. You call it like it is.

DD13 is from Detroit Diesel where as D13 is Volvo's signature.

@Jacob Brown I haven't found any Volvo green under the Mack maroon. But, If you can figure out the part numbers, Volvo parts uh Volvo parts are far cheaper than Mack parts. Lol

@@texgarcia1958 the Mack engine and Volvo engine are the exact same engine starting in 2006. I work for Mack/Volvo for the last 14yrs. Trust me, the two engines are literally the same. When the internal parts interchange, they are the same.

@@precisiondiesel225 yeah, so far as I can tell valve Cover and paint are the biggest difference. I have noticed the hp ratings are slightly different. So I assume something in the programming is different. Also price. At my local dealer green parts seem to be cheaper. 😆

Yes because they are many more people that work on them and more parts available, here in the states it’s hard to find people to work on them or just dealer . And I believe you guys have cab overs and that gives you better access .

We get all the same problems in England with Volvo d13 and the dealers are hard to work with to We went on to Scania and had nothing major only a water pump

Bro about those thin plastic pipes that go from overflow tank. Mine was so craky as if it was made of spagetti. I was changing tank and passenger side one cracked in few places. But I found a solution in 5 minutes. Im sorry for your truck sitting at TA for few days. If you look at both ends of this line it has special fancy connector that looks like you only need to buy from dealer. But on both sides its good ports to connect bigger diameter rubber hose with two clamps on both ends. For me it worked perfect already drove like 10k miles after installing it. No problem, i think its even 100 times better than the factory one. This hose is just relly fat compare to that original thin line. I actually use same hose for changing power stering fluid. Thake power stering filter out stick rubber hose in the tank, you know how you flush and change power steering fluid. Same diameter hose works perfect for this no need to be stranded who knows where for who knows how long.

I have the exact same symptoms, new rad new tank, pushing coolant from overflow, loss of power, feels and sounds weak. got new compressor and cups installed now has a ticking noise and blew black some the other day . Mechanic says could be head gasket. What do you recommend ?

Anybody swap a cat or d60 with original d13 or mp8 automatic or is this impossible because of computers and is a custom bellhousing adaptor plate even possible?

And why dont you use old cap that points right direction. I use my original cap on third overflow tank now. This chinese caps may not only point wrong direction but also release pressure at wrong point

PD Diesel Power wow, thats a shame. I work for a company on the east coast and we run cascadias and volvos. Volvos hold up much better and thats what i mainly work on. A lot of turbos, injector cups, and engine harnesses. But i have never had a reason to pull a head off. Hope you get better luck with them from here on out.

The d13 and especially the i-shift are weak overpriced garbage. Lucky to get 400k before they start throwing codes for split shifts. Only good thing about them is they are a cakewalk to remove/install. The engine is a weak, injector eating, joke. Get a volvo with a cummins and you got a completely different animal.
