Hey Terry, very informative as usual. Are you mixing your own fertiliser mixture, and how did you figure out what to mix and in what ratio? Do you ever spray pesticide on the trees?

I do buy each mineral in bulk but I also buy pree mixed .when I spray my trees I first look to see what they need and if you know what your looking for you can look at a tree and know what it's needing . As of now I'm using my pree mix but then I add for example zinc , mg and boron .I'm adding these because some trees are showing signs of lacking these minerals ...as for how much to add I use material provided by the fertilizer company. A little goes a long way with macronutrients

Why dont you use drip irrigation? It waters the exact spot you want, less weed, less water waste, you can add and reduce them and close and even cheaper than nuzzles. Even lower fungal disease pressure as the tree doesn't get wet on the trunk and branches. Something that might be a bit late is, to plant your trees in a diamond pattern based on the sun's path (not checkered). This way you have more light and root space for the same amount of trees. I think based on the practice you have you'll get more fruits than any orchard around. They only pump chemicals on their trees but you are taking care of their health. I think they are going to surprise you.

Your comments are interesting and may hold some truth, but I believe that the amount of water durian trees need, you would not be able to get that much flow using drip irrigation. Also you would need four drip head per tree to promote root growth away from the tree. I base this on a friend who is starting a farm in Spain starting with drip irrigation adn then changing to sprinkler once trees get bigger due to water needs. Also another friend who has a durian farm who has calculated the volume of water each tree needs once it gets bigger. Drip feeding would not supply sufficient water volume.

I've thought about that .The first year after planting would work but then I would have to start adding once the trees root system expands.One idea I have is to make a large ring with 1/2 inch flex line make a ring around my tree that I could adjust and then plug in drip outlets around the ring it would keep the water off the tree.My other idea that I think I will implement it by putting a half radius nozzle each side of the trees and spray outwards this would keep the tree dry and get enough water around the root system . I had designed my system so I could expand it once the trees get bigger .as of now everything is okay.I always love your suggestions and comments

Did you do a soil test to find out what the plant need ? show us the science that foliar feeding more effective than normal side dressing.

If you see the results from other durian farms in Thailand, you would soon learn that what Terry is doing here is far more successful than what locals do. His tree growth is quite amazing, and I am speaking from my own experience with a durian farm in Thailand. Maybe it will involves too much loss of face for locals to admit they are just guessing when they try to grow durian, but they can really learn a lot just by watching his videos and how he operates his farm.

I did several and the soil is lacking zn mg MN most soils around the world are lacking these minerals .Durian trees mainly feed from their leaves .As far as showing the science my trees growth rate shows it all .there are several studies out there regarding foliar spraying effectiveness in short, foliar feeding is usually not the most cost effective method of supplying nutrients to plants. However, it has proven to be an effective method of treating certain nutrient deficiencies and (perhaps) boosting plant growth in times of stress
