You can buy sticky copper tape to put around pots, and slugs can't cross the tape, but beware of overhanging plant which might have slugs on them and also remember to put the tape around the drainage holes at the bottom of the pot before you plant them up.

Does the spotty dotty spread more by the seeds of those flowers or do they spread more by runners or rhizomes, any idea?

I've had my spotty dotty in the ground for three years and so far no runners, and the rhizome hasn't got big enough to consider dividing so I still have only the one plant, but from the way it is growing I assume rhizome division would work...

Why not try-for the slugs-iron phosphate granules? There are several chemical products, but the safest one (for sale, at least here in America) is sold as SLUGGO. There’s another one that’s good too, called “Bug-Getta” or ‘the buggetta’, I think… Though I don’t know what it’s sold under in the Uk, but for some reason, I thought that you all did in fact have Sluggo. Or “Slug-GO” it might’ve been labeled as. I recommend it. It’s safe, just use common sense as with applying a “chemical” to anything. As long as you keep it away from edible garden plants, and don’t eat it, It’s perfectly safe! And it’s just iron phosphate, rather than some pesticide gibberish… safe, unless you’re a snail or slug! 😂 it’s also designed to be unpalatable (& unattractive, in general) to wild animals, birds, pets, etc. It is (allegedly) not even relevant to them, but the slugs can sniff out the iron and will crave a taste. Which will make them disappear for several months! And it lasts for quite a while, from my own experience. No need for beer traps or coffe grounds or eggshells. It’s a lifesaver, trust me. My neighbors sprinklers attract all the slugs into my garden, as it benefits from some of the residual sprinklers, but the slugs. Not even snails, just slugs! 😠 Since k applied Sluggo a year ago, I’m telling you I’ve seen ZERO. I applied again just in case the “next generation” decided to show up. 😜
