Steve, you demonstrated your extraordinary talent as a trainer! But you really showcased what a well-trained quarter horse is best suited to do! I know all horses can get trained like this with the proper effort, but the intelligence, curiosity and quick responsivness of the breed was fully on display here in Nita. They are so smart and she exemplifies this. Hope the demo season goes well and that you have many walking trail rides together into the future. Cheers for both of you!

Nita really shows us how well your training with her has progressed over the years. Even at her present age she is light and lovely with a very soft mouth. She is one of the few horses that I have seen outside the Dressage ring that can 'do it all' on the lightest aids with the simplest tack. This is how the horses that I learned on in France in the 1950s were trained - but my teacher taught us very carefully as the horses were expected to wait for the students aids at all times so there was no way that we could 'fake' the results we wanted until we had actually put in the work that our instructor wanted! I really appreciated the demonstration as it will give so many people something to aim for in their riding and training.

Watching the the new boys romping around the paddock was beautiful and brought a huge smile to my face. They have truly struck lotto to have you as their leader in training, Steve. Watching you on Nita was awesome to say the very least! I had tears in my eyes witnessing the dance you were doing in unison. She truly is a beautiful horse from her copper shine to her devoted heart. The sad bit is I'm 70 now and the last of my rescues have passed away and all at great ages (into their 30 + years) They were from emaciated to about to be shot as dangerous and non ride-able. It took time for them to settle in and know they were safe and on good feeding routines. Over the years they taught seniors who'd never been on a horse to ride, and as young a 9 month olds sitting on them and trying to groom them from standing on a bucket. I had them all come to call and all were rode bareback or bareback pad and knotted halters. Steve I follow your channel for each posting wishing I could also go back to help my 8 rescues over the many years with the lessons you show here. Thank you for your valuable work, time and care for the equines in the world. I'm in Qld Australia.

Thank you for all you do, we need a lot more Steve's in this world. All your years of experience has made you instinctively brilliant but fortunately not big headed. I watch you struggle sometimes putting into words what you have just done, often difficult for novice riders to even notice. Lovely to watch, lots of fun too as you both have a great sense of humour. Thank you, Steve and Tanya! Your videos teach and bring much happiness! Thank you for sharing your beautiful horses with us all! In 1964, when I turned 10, my grandparents gave me $100 for horse riding lessons. That was an extravagant gift and bought me maybe 8 lessons. I saved my allowance and babysitting money to buy more lessons, and some Saturday trail rides. And then the money was gone. But my love of horses remains. Your videos are a joy! Your skills with reading and understanding horses and communicating with them is amazing.. I respect your love and patience! Thank you!

I love your work & I love your beautiful wife! I learned to ride when I was in my early 20's. Always dreamed of riding. Started on a specially made bareback pad with extra padding to encourage proper leg position. No stirrups, no reins. Instructor had the lunge line. I learned how to use my legs! Got as far as very basic dressage, with reins, & stirrups added to the bareback pad. I had no money & took lessons twice a week until my college nursing program started & I had to survive on only 24 hours/week of work. Will NEVER forget the joy horses brought me. Blessings from an auld lady in the USA.

Sweet Nita! You've done a beautiful job of developing her to her best! Quite a joy to watch for us animal people, who recognize the intelligence and ability to use her "smarts" to show so many people who maybe would not understand how smart horses are if taught the right way to draw them out using their communication technique. It's really a pleasure! It is so sad sometimes to know that they have such a short life, but God knows what is best for these creatures. Some horses are treated so inhumanely, that their short life span is a blessing. I'm so glad that you have ways of teaching horses and teaching people to treat their horses as intelligent creatures.
