It’s an easy case. Most attorneys will do it at a flat rate. You can also sue them yourself in small claims court for the vet fees + any court fees. It’s very important to hold the owners accountable to prevent this from happening again. You should not bear the cost of an unprovoked animal attack. That’s 100% the responsibility of the other pet’s owner. Sending healing vibes to Mia❤

I don't know the rules of Small Claims is FLA, but in most cases IF you want to pursue this, and it makes sense for you to do so, Small Claims is the fastest and easiest way to settle this. IF you win, the other issue you will PROBABLY have, is trying to collect the judgement. THAT is the hard part. Again, not sure of the ins and outs of Small Claims there.

The only problem I see with going to small claims court is that there’s a financial limit that may be smaller than your veterinary bills.

@@StillPooh62 Many states have raised their Small Claims limits. Where I live it's 20 grand. By the time he paid a lawyer it could be a wash or a loss. Actually I just looked and FLA is 8,000. It's a tough call.

I learned to get pet insurance the hard way as well after a 14,000 Bill. 😳Three years later it’s been used twice for emergencies and I only had to pay a few hundred dollars each time out of pocket. Im a huge advocate and I tell everyone to get it now. Sending Healing Vibes to Ms.Mia!

I read that in FL, a dog owner is fully responsible for their dog biting another dog and that it should be reported to animal control services within 30 days for an investigation. I would certainly do that and get legal assistance! Reporting that dog will most likely prevent this happening again to any dog or person! Hopefully Mia will continue to get much better!

If it happened at the apartment complex & I know here in Texas as some apartment complexes (not sure about Florida) IF the owner took responsibility for his dog since Mia was hurt so bad he could get evicted. So, I'd check with your complex manager to see what options are.

Mia is worth every penny. I had to pay out of pocket for my dog's acl surgery x2, it was expensive and worth every penny. Sometimes even with pet insurance it doesn't cover 100%. Health and happiness is the most important thing.❤

Sadly I know what care credit is and it sucks to need it. As for the other owner, start small, ask if they will reimburse a percentage or give a bit each month for a year or something. No one wants to be taken to a claims court or lose their homeowners insurance ( which should cover if it was on private property) or lose their rental etc. Poor Mia!

Hi, you might suggest that he check with his homeowners policy, some policies will cover expenses that arise from an animal attack. I copied and pasted this from an insurance website....... "Homeowners insurance will cover the cost of medical and legal expenses if your dog injures someone or damages their property. " It is at least worth looking into.

I lived in a small town in texas and my 8 year old was attacked by a pit bull. I sued him and his home owners insurance paid big time. sue him take pictures of and everything.m there are laws for this very thing

You could get her a surgi-suit and she wouldn’t have to wear that cone. It’s a suit that she wears and it covers the incision so she can’t get to it. Most pet stores have them. Or Amazon def will.

I had that happen to me also was our dog and we ended up having to take the girl to small claims court and she said she could pay as much as she can but 10 she was only paying $10 a month and was going to be on probation until she paid it. Finally she only paid like four times and I’m like you know what I’m done and then she ran.
