That's a really neat camera and could really be a help with so many of your projects. 👍🏻

It is pretty cool. I'll definitely be using it again.

Man I was really rooting for you to find that bolt with the boroscope before you had to pull the intake manifold, but at least you were able to get it without pulling a head. You are right, I'd keep that scope handy, lol. Great idea to slot those bolt heads to be able to get to them. Now I'm looking forward to how it works out using that carb.

Yeah I really didn't want to have to get new head gaskets too. I can see that camera coming in handy for a lot of things. I'm hoping to do this job with the original intake and distributor. I just have to figure out the throttle position sensor so the computer will know how to set the timing.

That camera sure was a lifesaver. But your luck sure hasn't been good so far. I hope in the end, you're really lucky and the carburetor works great.

Yeah, this one has been a bit of a struggle. I have a feeling it should run pretty well on this carb.

My Dad had a 1973 Cutlass 442 that he bailed my older brother out of. Well, Dad was not much of a hot rodder, he grew up on horses, so all he wanted was gas mileage. And that Quadrajet was an emissions carburetor, not particularly good at getting high gas mileage. I was in Jr. College taking some automotive courses and one instructor said he had a brand new in the box Rochester 4GC, non spread-bore carburetor if anybody happened to want one. So, realizing it was an older carb than the emissions era carbs, I bought it and put it on Dad's cutlass. Now, at the time, I probably could have bought a nice bakelite adaptor, or an intake for that Olds 350, but I just got some particle board and used about a 1-1/2" stack of 1/2" pieces to make an adaptor, and bolted it on. Instantly Dad got better gas mileage, and there really was not much to connecting too as the vehicle was a manual trans with no additional linkages to try and adapt. That carb worked so well that I had plumb forgot all about it until one day Dad asked me to put the old one back on so he could sell the car. So, there's a testament to putting a different design carb onto a manifold. In your case, if you keep the TBI manifold you can go back to TBI to get your emissions certificate. (if yu need one) Also Too, I have a 1990 Dodge Pickup with TBI and I am going to put a little Carter BBD two barrel from another 318 on it. **BUT** the fuel pressure for TBI is too high for float needle and seat. Carbs tend to flood when fuel pressure is about 7 PSI, and typically a TBI won't even run below 13 PSI, so the fuel pressure will need to be reduced using an adjustable regulator, which I purchased. With all of that said, I personally don't give a tinker's damn about emissions, so I don't worry about it. And in my case, I will put a different distributer on at the same time so I will have no need what-so-ever for the computer. My truck is not going to be a race truck and I don't even pull big loads with it. It has a manual trans, so the only linkage I need is for the throttle. My 1990 Dodge is an ext cab 2 wheeler 3/4 ton with 1 ton suspension steering & brakes. It has the NP435 so the 318 can at least get something to budge, pulling something down the road is another issue. But it carried a 14' slide in camper pretty easily. And it's got a Bundy Bumper on it if I want to pull a trailer. Ha. But the truck has no rust and only a few dings. It has ps, pb, pw & AC. It needs a new speedo, as the one on it broke at 275,000. I live in Michigan but the truck came from Oklahoma. (the kid I bought it from said it was his grandfather's and he worked in the oil fields for what ever that's worth) All I can say is they maintained it well and all I did was replace the fuel lines and the fuel pump, but the computer is goofy and stops running after about 35 miles. OK, good luck on your swap, I'm sure it will work very well. And one thing you might notice, THROTTLE RESPONSE. I don't mean seat of the pants acceleration, I just mean when you give it a LITTLE GAS it will predictably move for you. But you will need to do something about the fuel pressure. Hey. ben/ michigan

I am thinking I'll have to get a regulator for it. A manual truck would be better for this swap, but I'm hoping it will work ok with the auto. That 442 would have been a cool ride. Glad to know the homemade adapter worked that well.

Wow I thought I was the only one that came up with this idea I did that a couple years ago on my 88 Dodge Dakota it was throttle body injection and I put a knockoff plant six carburetor drilled and tap the intake for new bolt holes and it ran just fine truck didn't care that it was now carbureted

Glad to hear it worked well. I think this one will too, I'm hoping so anyway.

I've seen it more than a couple of times where that happened. The one i'llll never forget is in high school yers ago a guy I knew dropped a nut off a carb into the intake. He just put a another nut on and tried drining it home. 10 minutes later it dropped onto the piston and caused major damage........ IT HAPPENS !!!!
@lukeFugate2 ай бұрын
Yeah, that was what I was afraid of. I know the bolt couldn't fit through the valve, but with vibration the nut could have come off.

Hey Luke, A guy that I know replaced a throttle body with a carburetor on a Chrysler or Dodge car and the engine actually ran pretty well. I need to get me one of those borescopes for my iPhone. Did you order yours through Amazon by chance? I will probably get me one too. It’s really weird how far a bolt like that will travel when you drop it into the intake like that. Some years ago, I had a KT17 Kohler 2 cylinder engine that had one of the screws from the butterfly to back out of the butterfly shaft and travel down the intake and lodge between one of the valves. That butterfly screw had to hit at the absolute perfect time not to destroy the cylinder head or even the engine. My uncle pulled the cylinder head and dislodged the screw with a pair of needle nose pliers and put the cylinder head back on and the engine started back up and ran like nothing was ever wrong.

I did get that camera from Amazon here is the link. amzn.to/48P3wp7 Yeah, I didn't think that bolt had gone all the way to the head. I figured I would spot it as soon as I put the camera into the intake.

What did you get a Rochester 2 jet or a Rochester dulajet ?you should have no problem drilling and tapping the intake.

it is labeled as a Rochester 2gc. Seems to have fit pretty well.
