Glad to see you working through this nightmare. I’ve been there at a much smaller scale. One important tip. Get the biggest dehumidifiers you can get and keep them running 24/7. Even if only the stern was submerged the entire boat is basically at 99% humidity. Your interior will smell of mold and mildew forever if you don’t get it as dry as possible, the sooner the better. If you’ve got dehumidifiers running nonstop it could create a problem with interior wood. I’m sure your dehumidifiers have humidistats, set it and monitor the humidity - don’t let it go too low. If you dry out the wood too much you’ll get cracks in finishes and separated joints from shrinkage.

Alan, just got back from 9 day in the BVI. Bareboat charted a 443 through MarineMax. They were great to deal with. This was the second time for my wife and I. We had two other couples with us and this was their first time. The one individual, Mike, is a big fan of your and has been researching the trip though your videos. Everything went well and we all had a great time. Mike quoted you a lot throughout the week, "This does't suck!!!!" Already looking forward the the next trip there. Bob

Oh man, making your own drink at Gertrude’s made me miss the original Ivan’s and his famous honor bar. At first I didn’t realize that the reason the employees were encouraging us to use more rum than mix was not to get us drunk, but because the mix itself is more costly to them than the rum. Unfortunately too many dishonorable folks kind of ruined that for us all. Looking forward to seeing the Hillbilly back on the water and meeting you in the BVI someday. Thanks for the update.

I hate to post something negative, after your spirits are being boosted back up after a devastating incident. I have heard on several KZbin videos, one being from a marine repair video, that once you have a flooded engine room, where there is a lot of your electrical is installed, that you will always have electrical problems. I hope that's not the case. Have they told you anything about how your boat will perform after repairs? Good luck. When you posted your accident video, I felt like I'd been gut punched. I can't even imagine how you felt. Good Luck.

The hull was punctured, I would not trust the boat anymore. And the electrical systems will probably never be back to normal, you will chase gremlins forever.

700K, Million Dollars, whatever, you got away cheap, there are so many scenarios that could have played out in this story, to a novice boater this appears to be a benign beaching while in reality you have 25 tons of matter smashing into a beach and potentially rock not to mention the wave break itself. The fact that you are all around to share this story with no harm to anyone is cause for celebration.

Man, Alan, momma and I are real life hillbillies from east TN but retired in Myrtle Beach, SC; (not to take anything away from your hillbilly claim) and wanted to say we love you, your energy and love of yachting, and live vicariously through you and your videos of the Caribbean boating we’d planned to do before the Marxist take over of our government drove interest rates sky high and inflation even higher. It broke our hearts to see your reaction to what could have happened if the scenarios had been a little different. As a retired LEO and 100% disabled Navy veteran of the Gulf War, I’m not only anal retentive about my ideas of “ship shape,” but was almost as distraught as you were seeing the real damage in dry dock as you must’ve been. Bless your kind heart, and we’re praying for you and the Hillbilly to be better than new (fiberglass repair has risen to new heights thanks to idiot hillbillies in Corvettes over the years), and assuming the parties at fault step up, you could walk away with almost as solid of a platform as you started with if not better, and we’re looking forward to many more years of your adventurous videos.
