Too cool. I found a Basilosaurid tooth on Holden Beach, similar circumstances of, "Huh, this shouldn't be here."

That is amazing how your tooth rose up from the deeper layers! Glad to see the awesome finds keep coming in. I just got back from your neck of the woods. The colors there never get old, and the prevalence of larger stuff keeps me coming back also. No giants like what you guys find, but I know one of these times I’ll be pulling one out!

i totally agree. such an interesting origin story! watch out Spiderman! Glad you found some nice stuff on your visit, the lowcountry is a great place to hunt. keep at it, you'll definitely find a big one someday. law of averages - spend enough time in the right kind of places and you'll score.

Oh man! That is so cool! an otodus! I love it. Also at 2:37, you can see an old barnacle or maybe limpett scar on the back of that tooth. That's so wild. ETA. Okay. you already saw it. nvm. lol.

Amazing finds and we love the videos!❤ I share them with the immunocompromised kids/adults I work with and have shared some of my finds with them during surprise visits as all of it is telehealth. My own kids love this as well and has been a dream of ours to go fossil hunting for megs and fossils in general not just beach combing. We are actually passing through the area this week and wanted to know if you would be interested pointing us in the right direction or even meeting up. If available please let me know. If not, we totally understand and no pressure. Keep being awesome and thank you for making and sharing such amazing memories!!

Otodus teeth are a dime a dozen up in my neck of the woods. But to find it in SUMMERVILLE? That's insane man. Literally that's super rare It's mostly Oligocene-Pliocene deposits up that way, no? That's super rare.
@blackriverfossils3 ай бұрын
yes our deposits are oligocene at oldest. i've never heard of an O. obliquus found locally. we went up there by you last year and diva found a killer otodus but I had never found even a broken piece of one. this is my first.
@jordanlee44773 ай бұрын
That is an absolutely sick tooth! Is it possible it is a reworked ric/ sokolovi? It's def an older tooth not usually in those Oligocene formations, neat stuff!
@blackriverfossils3 ай бұрын
Sokolovi and Auriculatus are both serrated so i'm pretty sure it is an Otodus obliquus because there is not a hint of serrations anywhere, even under magnification. the blade between the cusps is actually sharp, not much wear at all and if there were serrations on this tooth, they would be there.

Cool stuff. So cool that i actually sat through an unblockable kamala add to watch this. the pain we endure for our friends! I think the rarest tooth i have is a regurgitated meg. Absolutely perfect condition, just not a sliver of enamel on it.

omg sorry dude. some barf to go with your regurgitated meg...

Hey, I think I'll be passing through Summerville later this year in late November, could you recommend some easy-to-access fossil hunting sites for beginners?
@blackriverfossils3 ай бұрын
there is a creek that runs under dorchester road, next to a pawn shop and a kfc. it is very near where trolley rd runs into dorchester rd (hwy 642) and you can find teeth in there at low tide. go up the side creeks too and you can find stuff back there also. lots of people know about that spot so don't expect there to be giant teeth laying all over the place but you can find some stuff. that creek is miles long and there are spots to find teeth in multiple places. good luck!
