My old friend is pushing 15 and stopped eating in June, almost exactly as you described. She always was an eater, suddenly no normal food but loving the dental chews and treats. I also spent $1100 but got a clean bill of health. I embraced the treats, and started feeding her toast with peanut butter for breakfast, and eggs in a wrap for supper, and trying to coax her to eat some dog food in between. I also got her a doggy multivitamin. It took a few months but she's totally turned around and is eating well again and gaining weight. My guess afterwards is a problem with her teeth. Anyway, sorry for the long first comment, but your plan to feed him whatever he'll eat to get him through is what I did and it worked for my friend. I wish you nothing but the best. (PS. My girl takes Librella and Galiprant for her arthritis... They are miracle drugs.)

Interesting. Thank you for this comment! I was wondering if it's his teeth, but it would have surprised me because the doc just said in June that his teeth are in really good shape. (We do professional cleaning and he's had some teeth removed.) She did tell me yesterday his teeth still look good. Doc also talked to me about Librela a couple of times, but we agreed he's not quite "there" yet. However, I do have that option in my back pocket, and I'm willing to take that leap when necessary. We'll see how the cardiologist goes, and what the valley fever results are. Your comment is helpful. Thank you so much.

You are a great dog mom, my dog was on Gabapentin for years and it made the quality of his life better. In the last year he was on Treatibles organic full spectrum hemp oil and it changed his life. Buddy (a 75lb. golden retreiver) was 17 when he passed, he had a deterating bone disease that he lived with for 5 years. I tell you after a half hour of giving him one of those chewable he acted like he was 10. There is a pill that you can give a dog once in awhile that makes him hungry and he will eat it is not an everyday pill. Buddy was a happy dog and was loved I think that is why he made it to 17. Winston was the first name I gave Buddy when I got him, but his personality was a Buddy so I changed it. Your Wynston looks happy and very much loved. Prayers to you and Wynston, he will be okay he has at least a good 6 years in him. One last thing, Costco has the best prices on dog med's I found.

Oh no, Valley fever? My boy had it. Found out because he had seizure. Yep, neurological. We had a doggy neurologist and yes, it became a team. I was constantly taking him in. This was during COVID so they wouldn't let me in the building. They came out and got him. My Noah was on 11 different medications at one time. Diazapam for the seizures, gabapentin for the pain (which makes the recipient very tired until they start to get used to it. It also helps some with anxiety. He was on a appetite enhancement. I couldn't believe I was giving an appetite enhancement to a laborator retriever who's (just about) every move is motivated by food, the other is love.) He was on anti-diarrhea medication because another medication gave him diarrhea. Oh my gosh the list goes on.. he was a very sick boy for about 9 months. It took a while to get the seizures under control. We got through it. Yes, I said we. It would be hard on any mom. I didn't have anyone to talk to about it cause none of friends' dogs had it before. The vets just had to keep testing when something came up. That brain lesion really messed with him. He ended up not being able to squat to poop for a bit. He came out the otherside. A few years later he got cancer and had to leave his body and go be with my dad. (He had been dad's guide dog before dad passed. ) It could be rough at times. The thing is Amanda, this is curable. You and Wynston are in tune and you are both strong and yes, you will work through it together. I am so happy you explain things to him and talk to him. I think it is so important. I did the same. I'm sending much love to the two of you! Like you said you don't have the test results back yet. So, we aren't going to borrow trouble. Be well m'dear. You are a special young woman!❤

Our 10 year old dachshund mix lost his appetite, was lethargic, and coughing, but repeatedly tested negative for valley fever. Some dogs don’t have an immune response, so will test negative. The vet prescribed the antifungal anyway, guessing that it was still valley fever. He improved within 6 weeks but stayed on the meds for 9 months. 2 years later he’s doing great. My friend's doggy got that Valley Fever.... it was tough and took forever - but she is fine today. Praying for Wynston. He'll be ok. I'm taking my Roxy in tomorrow to have a growth on her side removed. She's a 10 year old little mix mutt and they are pretty sure it's not cancer - just fat - but not sure till they take it and test it. But it's hard sometimes - if only they could talk. Take care!!

A lot of times you can put a little warm water on dry kibble and they will slop it right up. Hope you get answers soon! We just went through a HUGE issue with one of ours. My nerves were completely stressed. She ended up having surgery and is completely recovered thank goodness.
