I'm glad you are back! I can relate so much as we recently had weddings (one in the US and another in Korea) and bought a house too. A remote data scientist here (we live in my husband's hometown where there aren't many data scientists jobs) and I totally agree. I would prefer hybrid over remote for better work supports and many other reasons. Looking forward to seeing more videos regarding your new work! Definitely doing the same thing, trying to learn more MLOps whenever possible.

Great to see you back, congrats on marriage and the new home. For new content ideas, it would be great to see general videos e.g. your working experiences, career/life advice. Also more training vids, similar content as your R course, but in Python.

I've been itching to do a video about 10 Python packages you should know. The similar R videos were received well.

@@RichardOnData Looking forward to it. Maybe also a general video, as to how you work with python day to day , such as which IDE you use, with tips and tricks. For R, Rstudio is the default go-to for everyone. However, there seems a myriad of ways to code in Python. Most educators are python only or R only specialists, your perspective (as active user of both) would be invaluable.

That's a great idea. I know a lot of people don't know where to start with that. I use a combination of vscode and jupyterlab for python, depending on what I'm doing.

Glad to have you back! You're videos were great, a refesh of some of them would be nice. Also, short (3-20min) walkthrough of some programming screen shares for certain tasks would be nice. Thanks for all you've shared!

Yeah, that's definitely coming down the pipeline. As I look back now with my videos having some age on them, some of the programming tutorials got the highest engagement. It'll be a little more difficult standing these out because there's more python content out there than R, but I'll do my best.

@@RichardOnData I agree standing out is tough, but I will say what drew me in to your videos was how you differentiated yourself with excellent "context-explanation" throughout the video. When you give commentary around the "why" or reasons behind things, it's extremely valuable to hear (and something hard to find in many tutorials that just tell you what to do).

My 3 cents on ideas for videos if you're interested woudl be : 1) Past videos but with the new 2024 perspective on them 2) Guide on how to transition/learn more ML deploy/Data Engineer stuff since they are really really hyped in the moment 3) Thoughts on the near future of the data jobs :D

One thing I've noticed in data science is that people are constantly trying to steer you away from what's exciting to work on something that will give more immediate "results". "Don't study big learning, do statistics" and then when I was trying to learn causal inference and that kind of thing people then say "Don't learn stats, learn business skills". Somehow it feels like my sights get set lower and lower until I'm just writing in SQL to only do things as advanced as taking a mean. It's really demoralising, what are your thoughts on this?

Depends what I'm doing. I'm a die-hard Shiny fan and prototype things incredibly quickly with R, though in a post-ChatGPT world that last piece is becoming increasingly obsolete. But these days for multiple reasons R isn't even a plausible option anymore, and I'm perfectly content with that.

Thanks Richard! Love your work. My work is mainly RND and interactive report generation and I love R for the reasons you just stated. I use reticulate where I need a python library. I have so many custom packages in R that jumping to python to recreate my packages just doesn't make sense at the moment.
