That’s actually what happened to a friend named “Roy Webb”. Buffalo, NY, around 60 years ago, Roy told us he was going swimming, he was going with 3 white boy from the Perry, a housing complex, in south Buffalo. We tried everything we could to convince Roy not to go alone, because “it’s not safe, for black peoples to be along, with white people”. There is safety in numbers, but he went and died, supposedly by drowning! The white boys claimed, the injuries, to his body came from, trying to save him! They were believed by the police.

One day, the neighbor was working in my daughter’s school cafeteria. My daughter yelled “grandma” and rushed to hug her. Grandma told me later. She said the looked on everyone’s faces were priceless as my blond, blue-eyed baby greeted her black grandma. Love knows no color.
