@@plasmatvforgaming9648 If have a question regarding the 1026 nits cap in Auto-HDR. I have a Q7C, couple years old, supports HDR10+, Peak Brightness of 1500 nits. Just as a heads up; I don't have this issue where the slider does not correspond with the display information's value of peak brightness. It's 1:1 on my System. Will it mess up my image in Auto-HDR Games if set the peak brightness slider in the calibration app above 1026 nits?

Next step is Microsoft adding proper calibration for sdr content in hdr mode to set up brightness higher and also to set up black and mid grey points or gamma to reduce obviously over brighten of of shadows and mid colors which makes sdr content look likes gamma is 1.8 or less.

So I own a qn90b and it indeed hard clips at 2200 as you said. Unfortunately we don't have hgig. The only thing that is close to hgig is static tonemapping (DTM off with a roll off to 3600 nits). Also if I use the wcg app it showd estimated Max CLL is 1445. Should I know increase the windows hdr calibration slider until it shows 2200 under WCG Image viewer? Good content as always. I wish you would own the same TV as me. Your contribution and effort is unmatched

Using static tone mapping, move the slider until it disappears, and that's the value. Unfortunately, all Auto HDR supported games now don't go beyond Maxcll 1026 even if you set the slider to max. You'll need native HDR games to get the best results, I believe. Samsung tone mapping is not Maxcll based. It's MDL (maximum display luminance) based. I hope to learn more about Samsung once I have the chance to collaborate with TKK and I will tell you all about it

I can tell you that 12 bits right now is not relevant because there's no content. You can get 12bits at 60hz. Dolby vision is mastered at 12 bits and downsample to 10. There are no 12 bits games and no Dolby support on PC, not even Halo. The best we can get is scRGB HDR10 which downsamples 16bits down to 10. The reason why is called HDR10 is because of 10 bits so for PC gaming that's all we can get for now.

How do you think this performs in comparison to using the HLG HDR trick? I've been using HLG 24/7 in Windows and it looks great on the desktop as well as games that don't have any HDR or a bad HDR implementation. Do you recommend using the Windows 11 app over HLG?

Absolutely use the Auto HDR on supported games, the HDR range is going to be perfect (unless the game has black level raised Which is fixable) and specially the colors are going to be more accurate. The HLG trick looks fantastic but the colors are inaccurate, it doesn't matter a lot for gaming and you might like the more vibrant colors of HLG but on supported games the Auto HDR is superior in every single way

@@plasmatvforgaming9648 thanks for the response! I’ll be using the Auto HDR from now on then. The one thing that I do notice about the HLG trick is that it allows you to play in HDR while still being able to stream your game in SDR on Discord or Twitch. Usually if HDR is active at system level, HDR content will look completely blown out when you try to stream it in SDR, but the HLG trick, because it’s an HDMI override allows you to output SDR content while streaming while still getting beautiful HDR on your screen!

@@plasmatvforgaming9648 I did some more testing today with the knowledged you shared (thanks a lot btw!) and I`m not very knowleable at all in this subject so it`s a little harder to know when something is correct, but IMO there still isn`t a set and forget perfect setting yet for Windows, so some adjusments still need to be made for different contents, the hard thing is to know exactly which is the best setting for each content... lol. But from my humble findings...there are 3 major kinds of content on Windows 11 currently: regular SDR, "good" HDR content and "bad" HDR content. Examples of "good" HDR is like Cyberpunk (with the latest patches) and also almost all KZbin HDR videos which look best with Full RGB in both TV and Nvidia settings (no crushed blacks and no raised blacks either, it just looks pristine same as using the native KZbin app on the TV. Then there is the "bad" HDR content, that in my experience is some games in this Auto HDR mode and other older flaky HDR games with bad HDR implementations, those seem to look best with the settings you mentioned (Nvidia Full and TV Limited), and also SDR content looks perfect with these settings in windows HDR mode, basically the same as it looks with HDR disabled and TV/PC on Full/Full. So what I am going to do now i guess is keep HDR on with the PC/TV Full/Limited setting so that my desktop looks good and also youtube SDR videos, but when i see that a video is HDR i switch to TV Full also as it this kind of content looks better with Full/Full... Sorry for the long-ass rambling, hope it can make some sense, sometimes I just want to throw PC out the Window as its so hard to fully utilize my LG C1 to its best potential on Windows lol. Hope MS improves this in the short future by at least making the desktop work flawless in HDR mode without resorting to those hacks. Cheers and keep up the good content man!

Do you still use the cru to change the windows hdr 1500 nits to 800 nits whilst using the windows hdr app
@plasmatvforgaming9648
@plasmatvforgaming9648 Жыл бұрын
No, using this app is much better because it saves the full frame max tone luminance which the CRU has but before 22H2 update it wasn't able to save, and also with this app we can now adjust the black level

@plasmatvforgaming9648

For all Auto HDR supported games, use Screen Brightness 46 or FINE TUNE DARK AREAS -16, they are equivalent. When not using VRR FTDA isn't available

I just realized that when I'm in HGiG, and range full in both Nvidia control panel and tv I'm clipping at 790 nits. But when I change to full range in NV control panel and limited in tv it clips at 550 nits. So what setting should I use?

Hello, why when I turn on the dtm on the TV, the picture disappears at the value 2200, and windows shows the value 4000nit?
@plasmatvforgaming9648
@plasmatvforgaming9648 Жыл бұрын
Because your TVs Tone mapping target is 4000nits, meaning when the content tries to output 4000 your display will output its maximum peak brightness. The slider at 2200 is actually 4000, it's not working as intended, I mentioned that on the video, they need to fix that, the bigger problem is that the games using Auto HDR won't try to push 4000, it will cap out at 1026nits

Not necessary, HGIG means no tone mapping on the display. If yours doesn't have HGIG option, then it's tone mapping. What you have to find out is where's the clipping point

The HDR calibration app has no impact on Cyberpunk HDR or most HDR games, only for Auto HDR and some Native HDR games. The other thing is that the numbers on the app are not Maxcll, it's a weird scale.

You can only set the slider to for example on the C1 oled to 800 Nits to make the squares dissapear in the calibration app., IF you set it to hgig. Try any other setting in HDR mode, and you cant get that calibration.

I can check it out today when I get back home but the way you can test that is by using the HDR WCG image viewer app on the Microsoft store. Take a screenshot of the game with a highlight and open the screenshot with that app to see the MaxCLL which should be between 590 and 600. To take the screenshot use alt+F1 or win+alt+print screen
