Regarding the very dark colors. I learned this from Alena here on YT. The polychromos black is transparent, so you can put it on top of other colors to darken them but the under color still shows through. I keep one in the little case I use with all my pencil sets along with a prisma white, erasers, blenders, dust brush, white/black posca, etc. The poly black and prisma white can really make a difference to an otherwise "finished" picture by increasing the contrast. The poly payne's grey is also excellent for cast shadows.

Regarding backup pencils.. especially the Prisma since they go so fast but all of the open stock really.. I keep them in little pencil boxes safe in a drawer. I print out a swatch sheet and go through and make a check for each color I have, then mark it out if I use it. It's so much easier to pull out the sheet and know if that pencil is in there, and/or what I need to buy another of. It's also saved me buying extra pencils I don't actually need, because I've forgotten I already have it. When I place an order for something else from Blick, Jacksons, etc, anyplace that sells open stock, I check those so I can get the extra pencils I need at the same time and save on shipping vs having to pay just to send a handful of pencils.

Hi K! Thank you for showing al your pencils!! My husband bought me the 100 Faber-Castell black edition and they are really nice pencils and have also some really dark colours, so that is nice. The price for the black edition are the highest in art store’s. In some online stores the price is 15 euro less!

I agree with you about Arteza Expert pencils, I love them too and you are right about their pinks and purples, they definitely have the best selection of those shades, along with Black Widows. When I can manage to prise myself away from my beloved Polys I will normally gravitate to Artezas or Black Widows rather than Prismas, which is heresy to some I know 🤭

The Staedtler Design Journey are comparable to the Stabilo. They are good too. Staedtler has a 72 pack of Design Journey. I also recommend FaberCastell Classic in the red tin.

Lovely collection K. I store mine in these pencils cases too. I keep meaning to make a note of which brand works best in which books, especially the cheaper Amazon branded books as they can be hit & miss.

Thank you for the interesting video. I also have the Stabilo Original and love them for the more intricate designs, especially in Kerby Rosanes and Melpomeni Chatzipanagiotou books. I haven't t seen the Lyra Groove pencils before, have you used them in Kerby's or Melpomeni' s books?

Have you ever tried Lyra Rembrandt polycolours? They are gorgeous and have some nice dark shades , especially greens , blues and browns. Yes Petra Hewitt, I used to watch her beautiful colouring too. Thank you for this! I always struggle with what to take to color when away from home, so it's interesting to see how you do that with open stock and smaller sets of your favorites. I look forward to someday seeing your ratings for pencils in different books! Also, I use the t'gaal pencil sharpene. It's cheap (~$7) and it's a game changer for softer pencils. I can adjust it so the point is "shorter" and i have no issues with breakage.

I’m a great fan of koh-I-noor products and have most of their colour pencils. I’m surprised that you dislike them as I prefer them to my Caren d’ache luminance and my Lyra Rembrandt colour pencils. So many KZbin influencers hold the prisma colours to such high praise yet I never got on with mine, they were forever breaking, their colour payoff is sub par and their colour range very narrow. I have other brands of pencils that even in “trying out every set of coloured pencils” type videos are yet to feature. I do think the topic is very subjective however as a lot of it depends on why you are using them, what type of finish you are wanting and whether or not you are using them with other media. As I do not colour in colouring books, but rather use my coloured pencils in my own illustrations, which sometimes utilise water blending too. I know the expensive brands are widely preferred by artists colouring in prints when there are defined lines demarking areas perhaps that is why they prefer the polychromos, prisma colours and luminance. My brunzyeel coloured pencils are another favourite with a more primitive colour palette. The Rembrandt and the brunzyeel are on the higher midrange price wise but in my opinion superior to the gifted more expensive pencils. I use them as I have them, but I’m just surprised that so many influencers do not even touch on these options.

I hope I didn’t say I dislike them on the video, as I don’t, I just find that they are not one of my favourites, but that may be a bit unfair as I haven’t really used them much. I may get the brown shade Koh-I-noor pencils set as although slightly harder they are fairly pigmented, I just need to use them more before I can decide how I definitely feel about them! @@ColouringwithK the brown and grey colour sets are extremely versatile, and I believe a useful addition to any colour palette, I sincerely hope you were not offended by my comment as it was merely an observation. I find these type of shows really interesting as on occasion I get to hear about a brand I am yet to come across. It’s engaging to hear alternative perspectives garnered from that individual’s experiences. There is always scope for learning and greater awareness of materials we use. As you rightly point out, we all gravitate towards the equipment we are most confident with, for me it is the Koh-I-Noor.

Hi there, I have the Ohuhu set of brush tips (100 or 120, can’t remember) and the 48 pastel set. I prefer the brush tips as it is easier to blend them Co,pared to the bullet nib. 😊
