What an amazing collection! Would you mind elaborating on what you are looking for when you make a purchase? Do you have any sort of goal for your collection? Do you have any limits on total number of pens or maybe brand limits? I’m curious because I am new to the fountain pen world and struggling to figure out what I’m doing, what I like, what I am comfortable with. On a different note, your voice is so soothing! I enjoyed listening! Thanks for the video, it is lengthy and I’m sure it was a labor of love to make!
@KenchanKrafts24 күн бұрын
Hi Hivona :D I see you also commented above for the Kilk pen lol. Thanks so much for your lovely kind comments on the work that went into the video. I just naturally talk like that xD So I'm happy I can help create a soothing atmosphere and vibe for you all! To answer your questions: 1) When making a purchase, I ask if it's a writing experience I enjoy, is it a colorway I would love to pick up and be inspired to write and create, does it add anything to my collection (completes a theme, adds to a theme, a pen I don't own, etc.). And if it's worth the price tag to me. These are all very subjective questions and the answers are unique to each individual. 2) My goal is to curate my collection to be bright, happy, and full of soothing and/or energizing colors. I live on color in my collection - so that's kind of ... dangerous and broad. I want to downsize to only pens that are comfortable for me will inspire me to create. Therefore, I've strayed away from lower end pens that don't personally help me meet those ends. But from a YT channel perspective, I would like to try some more affordable dupe pens for experience and helping others in the community get into the hobby without breaking the bank. 3) I have a limit on pens - it is a feeling of overwhelm. If I start to feel like I have too many pens unused - most of the time it is the expensive pens in my collection, then I will start to decide which ones are not being loved anymore and deserve a new home to be loved. I have no limit on how many pens per brand I want to keep. If each pen from my favorite brands are special to me, in what they represent, and how they relate to my life and story, I will keep them. The limit, again, comes from feeling overwhelmed. For a physical limit, I would say I want to stay under 100 or 90 at best! LOL! This is a hobby and a passion. I love writing and learning to write better and better. So fountain pens are my artistic tools to creating beautiful things in life for myself and for others. I hope you'll find what you love in this fountain pen community and curate your special collection someday soon! :D Thanks so much for watching. Sorry for the long text haha!

You have such a beautiful collection! I'm most partial to the purples, blues, and greens, particularly the resin ones with all those pretty swirls. The Italian pens are works of art. My local pen store is planning a tour to Tuscany in 2025 that includes visits to the workshops of Visconti, Pineider, and Stipula to see the pens being handcrafted. That would be a really fun experience, though the tour is quite expensive. I think I'll have 41 pens, not counting the cheap Muft pens I got as free gifts from FPR, once the two new pens I got for Fountain Pen Day arrive. After Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, it'll be at least 42. My favorite brands so far in my fountain pen journey are Leonardo, Sailor, BENU, Opus 88, and Retro 51 (whom I also have some nice rollerballs and ballpoints from). I'm really looking forward to seeing what future designs they'll make that really speak to me, as well as the pens coming in 2027 for the Year of the Goat (my Chinese Zodiac).
@KenchanKrafts24 күн бұрын
Ooo, looking two years ahead into the future! I'm also the year of the goat!! That's so awesome, Ursula!! :) I really do hope the pens in the Goat year are totally fascinatingly beautiful. Excited for you to get your two FPD pens, too! I plan to get 1 or 2 more on Black Friday, but those are my restrictions. I have done very well this FPD and didn't buy multiple pens I might just end up selling in the future. Italian pens are definitely works of art. I'm so amazed with each and every one of them. That tour of Italy sounds like a fking blastt omg, I wish I had all expenses paid! I would have loved to go on that tour with them. Thanks for sharing your journey and the experiences around you, Ursula. I appreciate you!

Oooooh, thanks for sharing! Your brother sounds pretty cool. Love the feather! What a great collection. Don’t know if I love your summer rain or autumn rain most. Those 21k nibs are exquisite. Love how they feel and sound. And of course, your Italian pens are fascinating just to look at. Last Friday I ordered a Pelikan M805 in vibrant blue with a broad nib to grind down in the future to a medium fine cursive italic. Can’t wait to see it in person. It’ll arrive this week. Am I crazy for loving that Homosapiens in matte red?
@KenchanKrafts21 күн бұрын
Yes, my baby brother is the youngest in my family, but he knows how much I've gotten into this passion and contributed to it through my YT channel :D So it was extremely thoughtful of him to get it for me on last year's FPD! (And he didn't even know it was FPD). I think Summer rain and Autumn rain are both super gorgeous - their finials and body colors are very well put together. 21k nibs are indeed so stunning and write with a beautiful soft ASMR-y feedback! I enjoy them so much! That's very exciting for your M805 to get grounded to an MF CI :) And which Homo Sapiens matte red are you speaking of?! I don't have one, but if you're talking about the Lava Inferno - that's a great lava rock Homo Sapiens, too!! I do enjoy the red/black of the Magma that was discontinued T_T I'm sad I didn't get it before all pieces sold out, but maybe I could get it second hand someday :)

Hello Lao, This video was epic! 🎉Your collection is way too much for one video 😄 I‘d love to chat with you about so many things-but my comment would be longer than KZbin allows 😊 I see a blue-green pattern here! The Blue green Sailor (my fav!), the Schon Design, the Al-Star and a Leonardo! Should have bought the glauco cambon- but that model is really too narrow for my hand.
@KenchanKrafts13 күн бұрын
@@MrsAlchemist oh you know I would read everything! I do have a blue green theme going on in almost every pen brand I own lol!! I am still debating selling the copper patina, and if memory serves was it you that was interested? I wanted to double check who was the first person to inform me of interest lol! And I agree the M600 can be just slightly a hair too narrow, hence possibly selling the black tortoiseshell too lol. Decisions decisions. But I need to get an EF to replenish my EF storage before I sell it. I like where I am at with my collection and where it will continue to go with the mindset that I can let certain pens go. Anyways thank you so much for coming by to comment and watch 🥰🥰 I really appreciate it!

@ thank you for your kind answer. If I see another video and you talk about a brand or pen, I will jump in the comments again to talk more ☺️ Sadly I was not the first asking about Copper Patina- but please consider me if the first person doesn’t want it anymore. I sold only pens that really hurt my hand and have no memories attached 😄

I’m halfway through this video and it’s making my night. I love your honest feedback (like about some of the “ridiculous” pen prices 😅). I feel like sometimes that candor can be missing in other videos / reviews (probably because it’s a small fountain pen world, which I get). I just got the Glauco Cambon after watching your video (my first Pelikan!) on it and I’m really enjoying it. I got an EF and it’s perfect. I also have a Sailor Pro Gear x Hachimonjiya. I got a F because I was late to the game and had to order from a reseller in Japan and choices were very limited, but I *really* wish I had a MF or M. In fact, I just got my first M Pro Gear and I love it. You’re right - M is perfect for those sort of dusky pinks or lighter chromoshading type inks. Anyway, happy to have found your channel recently. I think we have similar pen tastes and I love it. I still have so much to explore (I don’t even own a Platinum yet) and I’m ready to be penabled at any time! 😬

That would really help my channel hehe :D I am always candid about my experience with my pens, the brands, the money making and distribution side of this whole hobby, too lol! The mere truth of it all is that some pens are just too ridiculously priced, but in the end, a pen's value and worth is based on the individual. I love that you got the Pelikan Glauco Cambon! :D It's such a winner this year and I saw so many folks who brought theirs to the Pelikan Hub this year. Which Hachimonjiya pen did you secure? xD We'll be green and brown Kilk twins!! The best parts of the Kilk Luna are definitely the sterling silver phases of the moon and the moon with cheese holes on the finial. Those are the little things that just make a pen that much more special because there's so many similar resins these days. Those little touches keep you long enough to remember to appreciate the subtle details in the resin swirls. And yes, I hope you find Rime on Trees Amethyst someday. Beautiful pen. And TWSBI ECO pens can definitely be used as a prop for a Halloween costume...LOL!!

@KenchanKrafts23 күн бұрын
Thanks so much, Jeffrey! Love and appreciate you watching and your awesome comments and questions! The Hachimonjiya Sailor Pro Gears are inspired by historical and natural pieces of Japan. The pink one represents the largest 1200 year old cherry blossom tree that still stands today, the turquoise one represents their breathtaking aquarium filled with thousands of different species of jellyfishes (and they're a beautiful sight to behold in the natural places, too), the blue grey represents their beautiful hot springs and the atmosphere of people a cozy snowy night with families, and lastly, the lavender represents a breathtaking sunrise covering a field of snow in lavender only seen a few times in the winter. :) I am big on nature, so the pens really speak to me! As for my Sailor KoP grail...I have not yet found the perfect King of Pen colorway or theme. I was enticed by the Sunlight from the Ocean Floor but I do not like the large glitter on the blue barrel. I liked the Kissan KoP, but I already have it in a pro gear and I love it as it is. So, I'll keep searching. What are your grail pens? :D

Thank you for sharing your gorgeous collection Lao! I've only been collecting for about a year, so I'm still figuring out what I love most. I have one Leonardo Momento Zero, in Blue Hawaii - it's my most beautiful pen, and I'll be adding a few more, that's for sure. I'd like to try one of their flex nibs but I'm unsure whether to try the fine or the extra fine. Which one gives you more line variation? What would you say the difference is?
@KenchanKrafts19 күн бұрын
Hi Kim :) You're welcome and thank you so much for watching! Blue Hawaii is such an interesting pen with the spaghetti resins stacking in odd ways. It's beautiful. I will say that the elastic gold Leonardo nibs are a bit hard to use if you're not well versed in flexing. They're super soft but I'm not sure if their snapback is as good as vintage flex nibs so requires more skill to not spring the nib. In my experience of the two I have, I think the EF will give you more line variations :) That's the one I would go for! It also writes pretty thin and crisp lines if you write super soft and light.
@kimduhaime50219 күн бұрын
@@KenchanKrafts I think I'll try the Lonardo EF. I have a few flex nibs (no gold ones) - it's definitely an art to get a lovely line variation, but I guess practicing is part of the fun! I'd love to see a video about your flexy nibs. Thanks again for sharing your beauties!

Wow o wow. I cannot believe how esthetic your collection is. Mine is so random. I have much cheaper pens than you. The only ones I have that cost more than $100 are my Pilot Falcon, E95S, and my matte black vanishing point. I have a slew of twsbi’s and Kaweco pens. I too do not like the Lamy Safari and I feel like I should. I have an AlSport but I am not a big fan of it either. I like to post my pens and need a clip. That pearl on the Leonardo is beautiful.
@KenchanKrafts23 күн бұрын
Well, you chose some really good pens for over 100! Pilot makes really great pens at just a bit above 100 or sub 200. No other gold nib pens from other brands can beat that! Even the platinum centuries are up there, but those are a close second to being affordable gold nibs. Thank you so much for watching and commenting as always! :D It's great to hear people's thoughts on fountain pens through sharing my pens! I don't have too many AL-sports, now, but I really do like them a lot. I wonder if it's because I'm curating my collection so much that new kawecos don't fit into that curation xD
@fountainpeninsanity334410 күн бұрын
I have a Visconti Opera Elements and the cap makes the same popping sound that your Visconti made in this video. It makes the sound because the cap liner does not fit properly any more. The cap liner on my pen fell out and I tried to get it back in right, but it still is problematic. Worse than the sound it makes is that it causes the cap not to fit the pen well anymore. The cap takes a little more effort to get on because the hook safe lock doesn’t function as well without the proper pressure from the cap liner, and the cap fits a little loosely when it is on. I hope you don’t have all these problems with your pen, but if you do, you’re not the only one.

Your Platinum Maki-E is beautiful but if the nib is what you love about it, is it possible to put it in one of your other platinum pens?
@KenchanKrafts24 күн бұрын
I'm unsure if I can. The feed is very interesting as there's a plastic cover on this pen - the fins of the feed aren't exposed. So I don't know if the nib/feed can be removed, either. Plus this nib is about half the size of the century pens. I'll need to be on the hunt for an 18k Platinum nib/pen and see if the writing experience can replicate this Maki-e :) Thanks for your thoughtful suggestion, Shari ♥ and watching! I appreciate you.

Do you have any interest in the Laban 325 pen?

I have yet to own one, but I have not been completely wow'd by a model yet or one that made me crazy over that I had to have it. I'd love to feel one in my hands first and try them out :) Some Laban pens have been intriguing, but I just haven't pulled the trigger yet. If you have some, what are your thoughts on them? :)

@KenchanKrafts Not yet, but I'm eyeing off the 325 Damask colourway, it's the celluloid one and to me looks gorgeous.
