I will say that I have hooked up with another dump truck owner who has "taken me under his wing" and I just started this March 25th 2019 with a tandem truck. Today I bought a quad axle thanks to him and the work he has provided for me. I've been working 5 to 6 days a week and am very thankful for meeting the great people along the way.

You have to start somewhere, maybe not at the top end, but also try to be reasonable in your rates. Yeah...never rent your stuff. Join up with other drivers...marketing. The goal is to keep your wheels rolling as much as you can handle.

I bought my own truck and while I do the PM on it I continue to be a company driver. While I'm loyal to my current boss I'm looking to help him going owner op and renting a dump trailer from him. It's all in the route u take to succeed to become your own owner op. No one will give u work but it you stay loyal and make good relations you will be successful

Great videos..I’ve watched many of them .. I’m planning on starting a dump truck business.. can you make a video or give some info on how you get paid, where you send invoices.. tally your hours that the customer knows you’ve been there.. I’ve watched some sites, and many different companies go and pick up a load.. who monitors if you’ve been there or not ..

How to find work - It's not always as easy to find work as you make it seem! Just calling people isn't the magic bullet. Most contractors aren't interested in dealing with a single truck owner. Too much legwork, headache and logistics for 1 truck. Then the cost of dealing with the paperwork, the billing and such is another hurdle. Additionally, most contractors have minimum requirements that many single truck owner operators really cannot afford. You need to charge what you need to charge - An owner operator needs to know the numbers and have those fixed expenses in a spreadsheet for constant review. Most owner operators don't keep track of their numbers and end up failing miserably. Additionally, the rates in your area have a huge impact on what you can charge and remain competitive. DO NOT get caught up in being a low balling, rate cutting knucklehead. ANYONE can cut a rate to get a job to make themselves feel some artificial feeling of success. While I agree you need set a precedent on rates and you need to be an outlaw, most big outfits will crush you with dropping the rates. The real problem in this business is, anyone can buy a truck. And in their inexperience they will panic, drop rates, undercut everything and end up working for free... and now you have to as well since that clown set the precedent. We struggle here in Florida to get $80 an hour for a tri-axle. I do outside sales for a large construction materials company and every time we put something together, some clown comes along and cuts the rate to a number we ran for 20 years ago. And the knuckleheads go out there are run it! Marketing - Agree 100%, talk up your business. Get those calls out there, send those emails. And it may pay off for you. Most fail and end up working for a broker. Not everyone wants to run a truck all day and be on the phone all night and the weekends forging relationships and making something happen. Professionalism - Do what you say and say what you do... and no matter what happens, make 100% certain you live up to every promise you make and complete every task you agree to. I have been in this game for 30+ years. I have estimated and set rates for a company that had 750 truck in the fleet. I have done sales, business development and dispatching for 50, 100, 250 trucks. There is money to be made. Just don't get caught up in the low balling / rate cutting nonsense. BE SMARTER THAN THAT! Good video, but you need to have a little more specific details, percentages, costs, etc. But overall, in a general sense, you captured the gist of the business. I've thought about doing a series of videos walking you thru everything from the type of truck to buy all the way thru doing your paperwork. Maybe one day I'll have enough time. Stay safe out there drivers!
