This is so underrated, thank you so so much! i just got my ukulele a few days ago, and I'm learning a bunch, changing notes so fast is really tricky for me though- If anyone has any tips for that that'd be awesome, if it's just muscle memory then I'll just keep practicing
@marshallgracemusic3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching!! Heres some tips off the top of my head. Let me know if theres anything I can help with or explain further! Practice going between two chords for a couple minutes, especially if its for a transition that you are struggling with. I like to strum the first chord 4 times, then the second chord 4 times, then repeat. You can add a 4 beat rest inbetween chords if you need more time to switch, then take out this rest as you improve. You can add a third chord to this pattern if you'd like as well. Single out sections that are difficult and play them slowly. A tendency for new musicians is to try to play a song from the beginning, then stop and restart when they make a mistake. This tends to make you really good at the beginning, but not improve on that section that you struggle with! Learn the difficult part, then go back and add it in context. If you want to try to play along with the video, but need go take it at a slower tempo, you can use youtubes speed changing option. Make sure you have good hand posture! New players often roll the fretboard back to lie more flat in an attempt to watch their fingers, but this makes it harder to play chord properly and can make switching slower. Also, keep your left hand fingernails really short so you can make sure you are playing with the tips of your fingers.

hi so okay, i have the rhythm and chords down, and i know the lyrics but whenever i try to play the ukulele and sing at the same time it becomes really hard and jumbly, do you have any tips to help that?
@marshallgracemusic3 жыл бұрын
Hmm, theres two things that work for me in this situation. First, I'll go really slowly and play the chords with the strumming/ plucking pattern, then speak the words in rhythm. That way you can get used to the two different rhythms together, but dont have to worry about the pitches you are singing. The other thing I would do is sing with just the first chord of each bar, without the strumming pattern. That way you can do the chord changes while singing, and just have to add the strumming/plucking pattern. Usually once I can do both of these exercises it becomes a lot easier to put it all together. If that doesnt work, it's always a good thing to try just focusing on a couple lines at a time and doing them really slowly, focusing especially on the sections of the song that are the hardest.

I looked this up online and it had Bm and D on there. How do you play those? I looked stuff up online but I saw some stuff that said it was for those notes/ chords but I don’t know if it’s the right thing. I saw something about positions
@marshallgracemusic3 жыл бұрын
Bm is played by barring the second fret with your pointer finger, and putting your ring finger on the top string of the 4th fret. D is played entirely in the second fret, with your pointer finger on the top string, ring finger on the second string, and middle finger on the second string. This position with your fingers "out of order" might be a bit strange or uncomfortable at first, but using this fingering will make it much easier to switch between other chords! If you search "Bm uke" or "D uke" the image results will be accurate. (theres also a couple variations on how to play these chords, but these are the most common versions!)

Is it possible that someone can help me tune my Ukulele, I have no idea what I did and I have a tuner but it’s still not sounding like how it should from the video 🙄🙄🙄
@marshallgracemusic3 жыл бұрын
Hey! I'm using g C E A tuning and I'm playing a concert size uke. The notes/tuning will be the same on a soprano or tenor uke but the resonance might sound a bit different if you are playing on one of those. If you are playing a baritone uke (which is typically tuned to D G B E), you'll need to put a capo on the 5th fret to make it sound the same =) also, make sure you are tuning from the top string down. So, the string closest to your face when you are in playing position will be tuned to g on a soprano, concert, or tenor. Let me know if you still need help!

It's a snail koa, and I believe it's in the $300 range, but it was a gift so I don't remember exactly. It is a concert uke, so if you have a soprano the tone is going to be different =) same for if you have a uke that's an inexpensive beginner level uke, the tone will be different because of the materials and quality
