Probably based on a real event that happened back in 2008 where the perp went to his in laws on Christmas Eve, set up a spray system for racing fuel to be ignited with a flare, and went on a pew pew spree. It's called the Covina Massacre.

Sounds like a fictionalized retelling of the Covina Massacre. Guy went through a messy divorce and lost his job so he decided to take revenge by going to his in-law's house on Christmas Eve, set up a system to spray racing fuel and be ignited by flares, and pew pewing people. Perp didn't get away but was injured when the spray system ignited early because of another open flame in the house so he ran to his brother's house where he self deleted.
