It was, Gil, and so am I! Still don't really know why they didn't fungus the first time but did the second, but at least I think I know how to prevent it next time. Now to figure out what I'm going to do with all these fry (close to 50 😶), I am in the process of setting up another tank for grow out right now. Thanks so much for watching, I appreciate it! 😊

@@TarasTankFriends I've had angelfish remove any unfertilised, fungusy eggs. Is it possible that is what occurred the first time?
@TarasTankFriends9 ай бұрын
@@Gilsfishroom I suppose it is, he ate most of the first spawn of eggs the first night. I kinda thought it was inexperience, but I had not considered that possibility. Thanks, Gil!

Very cool Tara! I absolutely love this fish and I had success breeding them in the past. The fry are such slooooooow growing but when they get big it’s worth it. I pulled the eggs numerous times to hatch them myself cause the male would eat them but then all of a sudden my tank was covered in fry… he finally learned to be a parent like yours did😁👍
@TarasTankFriends9 ай бұрын
Thanks so much Patty! I'm a little surprised your male or pair didn't eat them, but that's awesome! Yeah, I was reading it takes about 8 months to maturity, that's about what my cpds and tf rainbows take, so I guess I'm used to it, lol. This is in a community tank with emperor Tetras and danios, so if I let them hatch in the tank, they'll most likely be eaten by someone, save for maybe a lucky one or two if it's good at hiding. I'm going to have to see if that happens next though, they've laid another batch and I can't handle 30- 50 fry every 2 weeks or so. 🫤 It is really cool to see the male take care of the eggs, I don't have any other fish that do that! Thanks for watching, I appreciate it! 😊

Thanks! I haven't put the cave back since their last spawn since I just don't have room for that many fry so soon again, I actually did add a large clump of java moss but they've decided to spawn in between two anubias leaves 😅. Great job, Tara! There may have been ups and downs, but of course, there is. I know the feeling though ive lost all of my goldfish besides the koi, and it's taken a lot out of me. Im very glad you chose to show the ups and the downs, though, because that might help me one day. no luck on my quest to find a male though. I got one from my local pet store and it didnt make it, their quality has suffered alot recently :/.

Bit of a sad start but it was a happy ending at least :) Would the male take care of them himself if he was solo in a tank? Or would he eventually start eating the fy as well?
@TarasTankFriends9 ай бұрын
I'm sorry about that, I felt I needed to show what happened as it's all been a learning experience for me, but also important to show how I prevented that from occurring again. So I haven't actually tried that, but everything I've read says they'll eat them if left with them. They're micro predators and constantly hunting in the tank, so I can definitely see it. Thanks so much for watching, I really appreciate it! 😊

That was a really good question. I'd figure they'd be okay since theytske such good care of their eggs. When I had a breeding pair they'd spawn all the time and I wouldn't see the male for weeks outside of the cave but nah, Lil homies just farming for him and the misses, nature for ya. 😂

I only have micron, I can't obtain golden pearls… can I make it work?
@TarasTankFriends14 күн бұрын
@@FishkeeperThatPlaysTF2 I've only tried this combo with the gudgeons, the golden pearls are a little finer. But before I had that, I had some threadfin rainbow fry which are even tinier. What I would do with the sera micron was rub the container on my shirt to get some static build up, tip the container upside down and back and then what stuck to the lid was only the finest dust that I would put in for them. I know it sounds kind of weird, but it worked, lol! You could always try that when they're newly hatched. Another option is to take some tiny bits of yolk from a hardboiled egg, powder it into a cup with tank water and pour that in, and it works really well. I will say some people feel that this method dirties the water very quickly, but I did not find that too be the case when I've done that method with cpd fry. Both methods should get you particles fine enough that they will stay suspended in the water for a while so the fry can find them. Good luck with your fry and thanks so much for watching! 😊
@FishkeeperThatPlaysTF214 күн бұрын
@ I don’t want to use hardboiled egg yolk water as peacock gudgeon fry are extremely sensitive to ammonia, But I would absolutely do it if they were a less sensitive fry, thank you for the suggestions Tara!
