There is nothing to be pity about. The former CIA landing strip. It serves no significant value to the city of Vang Vieng. It's no longer feasible or suitable for a landing strip in the middle of the city. The older Lao government and military officials think the same way as you do. They were hoping that one day it could be turn it into a functioning regional airport and parade grounds. The current Provincial leadership is right to have it developed into a comprehensive tourist attraction and entertainment complex.
