Good thing to put a protection on that awning switch in the storage compartment. We had one that opened up twice. Once on a very curvy road . Then the second time, it opened on an offramp from the freeway. I then hit a stop sign with the awning out. It ripped the awning right off the RV. What a mess. It ended up being a recall, so the damage was paid for my the manufacture.

Great mods Ray! Really enjoy watching your mod videos, Thanks. The dimmer switch is a great mod, I did the same mod with sconces in our living room, replaced the on/off switch with a dimmer.

I took your advice and purchased a cutting board. I put it over the stove burners (only when they are cool) to enlarge the perceived counter top. I will be storing it under the bed as well, thanks for that tip.

Simple and well thought out mods for your RV. I’m not sure I’m gonna need that romantic lighting in the bedroom as I am now currently single and 71. Your mileage may vary. Good job, enjoyed your hacks.

Did you know that you can use residential light fixtures with 12 VDC bulbs (Amazon). See KZbin channel Project Trek's RV TOUR around Jul 2020(?). It's in the first 39 seconds. Just grab the wiring before and add a dimmer, then follow on to the light.

Yup, there are also ones for RVs on the market. I find the PWM controller a little beefy than many of the other premade options. I used one for my bathroom fan it has a nice smooth range. Cheers Ray

Love your mods. I will be replacing our awning led strip too. Coachmen decided blue would look nice but its in fact a hideous colour.

I'm finally starting on some of upgrades you've recommended. I took the plunge and drilled the hole in the roof to mount the 400 watts of panels. I went back and watched your 2014 video to get the perfect location, and it worked!! Wire ran right down in the wall next to the vent pipe to under the bathroom sink, then down thru the basement to my controller. Just need to mount the panels tomorrow (using your method) and make a couple of wire attachments and I'll be done. I've got a bunch of other things I want to do, but this one was bothering me the most AND I'll get better boondocking with this project. Thank you, sir!!

Awesome! Yes, my first two panels have been there for 6 1/2 years now and still very firmly attached. And I've been on some rough roads! I think the main thing is to not over tighten the mounting screws, just till you feel them bite into the wood nicely and snug. Dipping them in sealant first helps too as does the lap sealant on the brackets. Cheers, Ray

@@LoveYourRV Hey, I WATCHED the videos! You dipped them in sealant, then hand tightened them gently. I will NOT deviate from the Masters teachings! HaHa! Cheers!

BRAVO, Ray! Question: Is the border going to be open soon for y'all to visit the U.S. again? Enquiring minds wanna know! ;)
@LoveYourRV3 жыл бұрын
No one knows for sure yet. Our federal government is pretty tight lipped. They update the closure and extend each 30 days. I imagine once most Canadians are vaccinated in the next couple of months there will be immense pressure from our tourist business sector to open the border to save their businesses. They already lost one summer season, another would likely be the nail the coffin for many. Likely the same on the USA side of things. My guess would be after the National holidays of July 1st and July 4th if the newer virus variants don't ruin things. All the best, Ray

Thanks for the update. We have a 2015 hideout with the same awning and it has always sounded like the motor is running slowly. I will have to see about that switch ides. Thanks from Popkum BC

Anne is one lucky lady; you are chief cook and bottle washer plus you do all the repairs, mods and such; do you have a clone anywhere? Love the idea of the dimmer switch. We are thinking about getting the Haloview Handy 7 for the truck camper. Have you had the chance to look at that model? Thanks for sharing.
@LoveYourRV3 жыл бұрын
No, I haven't reviewed that particular model. I have tried their battery pack when I reviewed side cameras a few years ago and it seems to work pretty well. www.loveyourrv.com/haloview-side-mount-rv-backup-cameras-and-accessories/ Cheers! Ray

I like the extra switch for the awning, I have the same awning and it labors going in and out like it's not getting enough current I my try that mod. I assume that the switch has to reverse the polarity for in and out.

Yes, you can find links to detailed posts on the mods here www.loveyourrv.com/9-recent-rv-mods-update-video-on-how-they-performing/ I used a double pull double throw momentary-on switch wired like this with jumpers to reverse the polarity www.loveyourrv.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Awning-Light-Install-Schematic.jpg Here is the switch I used - amzn.to/3f5G6QH Cheers, Ray

I keep thing about more mods, but then thinking about getting a 30ft vs 36 ft rig. I love doing DIY, but hate putting money towards something I might get rid of. Thoughts? BTW, been thinking of 30ft for 3-4 yrs...procrastination.
@LoveYourRV3 жыл бұрын
That's something to consider for sure. We are full time and have loved our rig size and layout so don't mind making it better for our needs. We've had it 10 years now and hope to get at least other 5 out of it.

With the awning switch install are the other two switches for the awning disconnected and to find the 30 amp line I will have to look into the trolling motor install to create it correct? Thanks Ray for the always entertaining and informative videos.
@LoveYourRV3 жыл бұрын
No, the OEM manual and remote awning switching still works. I just ran the new extra switch in parallel. For power to it I utilized an existing 30 amp supply I had modded in for my VIAIR compressor. You can see that install here - www.loveyourrv.com/viair-450p-rv-12vdc-air-compressor-review-and-rv-hookup-mod/ Cheers, Ray

Hi Ray, We would love to replace our OEM double sink. Did you consider Home Depot or Rona? If yes, why did you buy from Wayfair? Thank you.
@LoveYourRV3 жыл бұрын
The regular suppliers like Home Depot or Rona only seemed to have sinks way too large for the RV or tiny bar sinks. The RV suppliers like Lippert store.lci1.com/shop-by-department/fresh-water-waste-management/kitchen-bath/sinks-covers.html had some stainless but not quite the right sizing for me. So I ended up finding one on Wayfair when searching the web for sinks and they shipped right to our campsite.

Have you ever considered becoming a consultant for an RV company? In my opinion, I think you should offer your services to Keystone RV as a consultant. (Or any RV company, for that matter) You could show them your upgrades and explain to them that people would be more inclined to purchase an RV that was more reliable and more convenient. You could also help to improve the quality control in the construction of the RV's. It could be a sub-high-end version of RV. I'm not talking about RV's like Airstream. They're priced way too high. I'm talking about the 40 to 60K price range. They should be better insulated and have better suspension systems, amongst other things. People should have the ability to select options for their RV that would fit their needs. And we all know that the more gadgets the better, especially among the younger RV buyers. A lot of people don't have the knowledge or ability to upgrade their RV's like you do! The problem with a lot of the RV's built today is that they lack the options for folks who like to boondock, or camp in remote locations for a sustainable amount of time, like yourselves. You have to go out an buy better batteries, and buy and install more solar panels. They also could use larger holding tanks. I personally would love to have an RV that would come with these options. A lot of these luxuries are only available in really long campers that are too big to take anywhere off road. Yes, you can buy one of the Black Series that are really cool for boondocking, but they're not big enough to live in full time! I guess some folks could, but not most. I thought I would suggest this to you. Thanks! And Happy Trails!!
