Updating From GameCube to Wii 1.0

The process took a while, but it is finally possible to upgrade from tne GameCube software to the Wii 1.0 RC software.

Fun fact about the Wii: It doesn't have an OS. The Wii Menu is just a built in game that launches are startup. As for the menu you see when you press the home button, that's built into the games themselves! That's why Homebrew applications always use their own version, cause they can't include the official due to copyright.

It does have an OS called "IOS", which runs on the console's ARM coprocessor. The Wii firmware contains several branches of IOS, and hacked versions are called cIOS.

I have tried this before and I can confirm it works as intended. Usual install takes about 15 - 30 minutes, but sometimes can take longer. Unfortunately you can not do this on Dolphin Emulator, it breaks the emulated system if you do.

Btw the creator said the video was fanmade in one of their replies. To my knowledge, the GameCube BIOS chip is read-only, unless the GameCube works similar to a PS2 where the system can load "firmwares" from a memory card. And even then, I think the GameCube and Wii hardware are different enough for forward-compatibility to be out of the question.

I'll admit there are some believable things about this concept: 1. Nintendo has legitimately released some software updates through games back in the old days. For example, a Zigzagoon traded to your Pokemon game on the GameBoy Advance could update the Pokemon game's software with new content. 2. Video game consoles are still very much computers, even though they're very specialized ones. A disk that can install Wii software makes sense. 3: There is a port underneath the GameCube where you can attach additional hardware. The things that are not believable: 1: I don't believe Nintendo would outright allow a GameCube to Wii update. They would want you to buy a Wii...same as there was no N64 to GameCube update, no NES to SNES update, no Gameboy to Gameboy Advance update, etc 2: The Wii's hardware is different enough that the GameCube, even if you could get it to run Wii games and support a Wiimote somehow, that the GameCube hardware would have a very hard time trying to run Wii games.

The editing could have been a bit better, honestly - the installation process images didn't line up with the animation very well. The Wii Startup Disk menu also went by way too fast and was stretched to 16:9 - the Wii and GameCube both defaulted to 4:3. You also didn't showcase the Wii's first-time setup feature (unless that wasn't in 1.0)

Yes, this video is fake, but since the Wii is just an overclocked nintendo GameCube, if you try really hard, you can get a wii game to run on it at a very low framerate.

It's fake, because the Gamecube doesn't have the components to run Wii software, detect a Wiimote, or motion controls, plus the information on the update box is incorrect, and the restarting doesn't actually do anything at all, it's just there to make it look believable. Edit: Nintendo would never release an update disc either, and if it was "finally possible" then it wouldn't be a disc from 2006
