A lady came into the restaurant I used to work at. The manager and I were both working the cash register. There were two registers. She goes up to the register the manager was working at and orders her meal. Something happened and she got mad and demanded to speak to the manager. The manager went to the back for a few seconds then came back out and said he was the manager and asked what he could help her with. It was brilliant. I should mention he had a badge pinned to his shirt that had his name and assistant manager on it

As someone who is unfortunate enough to work in retail, I surely wish I could have been a manager to deal with a loony customer I had a few weeks ago. Great stories.

TL:DR - Female manager sent to stop a (potential) fist fight. Six male managers/ushers on hand to watch from out of customers' view, but not mine. Heh... Closest I have is when I (@33F at the time) was called from the booth to deal with a fight that was about to happen in one of "my" theaters. 25-screen house, I was running 13 of the projectors. I told the floor manager this wasn't a good time, I had a string of starts, and he said to not worry about my starts, they'd take care of them. Privately grumping about it, I go downstairs to the theater after stopping their film (still in trailers) and putting the house lights up to full. On my way, I see a string of 6 male managers and ushers trailing behind me, stopping out of sight of the men about to throw down, and left me to deal with them. I'm still feeling grumpy. Look at them sternly and tell them they can take this outside and fight, or they can sit down and watch the movie. Everyone else came to watch a movie. If they fight, they will NOT be refunded for their tickets. (didn't mention we'd also call cops on them, figured that was a given) My inner Mother was in charge. I was not intimidated by them. Not nervous. I was firm in laying out their choices, and ordered them to choose. The sullen looks they gave each other started looking more sulky/pouty, and both decided they'd rather watch a movie. I watched them sternly until they sat, then walked out of the theater. The unruly men never even knew I had a 6-man backup team, waiting to swoop in if I needed help. Glad I didn't, as the only thing I was thinking about them at the time was, "They have ALL these others down here to deal with this, why did they call ME down?!" Later, I decided they wanted a woman to go in because a man might spark things off. Never did ask about it.

Fair enough. My mother's been in various situations where she had to break up between fellow females specifically because sending a guy bouncer in would have caused all sorts of problems. I didn't understand at 7. 20+ years later...!

I don't understand these kind of people. I'm the sort of person that will always be nice and patient. Occasionally, I'm a dunce and don't know what the hell I'm doing. When I'm corrected by retail or service staff, I'm just like "sorry, I'm an idiot and for making you put up with my dumbass."
@Roadent12414 жыл бұрын
The one time I've had to point out someone did something wrong with my order, as they did recently (vinegar on a salt-only fish and chips, I watched him automatically apply vinegar because it goes first, autopilot is a heck of a thing) I stepped up and went "Sorry, did you put vinegar on that....?" And he just stopped with the salt unturned in his hand and went "Did I? .... Oh damn, let me do you another one. I'm so sorry." Lucky we're on good terms I guess? I just didn't ask in a hostile tone, and lucky I had been watching 'cause he glanced to me when he picked the fish up to make sure I knew it was about ready. It doesn't seem that hard. Even if it's not someone I've been talking to every weekend for a year, it's not that hard to be nice. I'd say it's harder to be a difficult constantly, to people just doing their jobs.

Promise it’s worth it ... Worked somewhere for a week ... the Friday before that the manager “crazy yelled” at a brand new employee that started that day, belittling him and even though the dude was obviously not good with a ruler still didn’t think he should be talked to like that... the next week I accidentally forgot to put a shrink tube on before attaching things to the crimps... noticed... in the middle of being checked off for the next step I was going to fix it once she walked away she looked like she didn’t notice... she was about to sign off pen to paper when she flipped... started yelling ... I had already made my mind up when I saw her yell at the other person that if she did that to me I wouldn’t be submissive like that guy was (it was embarrassing) I said “I am almost 30 I’m not gonna be talked to like this she was like “that’s great! I’m 32” she basically was bragging about how she was in her 30s and she still thought that she could get by with treating people the way that she was treating people I ended up walking out of there and letting corporate know how she has been treating people And why they can’t seem to keep people for a week... pretty sure she doesn’t work there anymore ... But honestly I don’t know why people like that can get managerial jobs it’s like the people that go for those types of jobs are like Gollum in the sense that they are so hungry for power they don’t even realize they don’t really even have any and everyone hates them... power is earned in that position... if people don’t like you they do less work ... less productivity and as a manager you look bad… If people like you as a manager they will 100% respect you more and therefore be more inclined to go above and beyond to get a “good work” from you ... I have only had 1 manager that earned respect from me so far and he was amazing the minute he left the company the people that didn’t like him soon found out how much he helped us out and fought for us with corporate to be paid decent and get good hours ... if corporate had it their way we wouldn’t of been paid at all... one guy worked almost 2 months not paid ... if you’re ever in the position of hiring somebody for a manager real job don’t pick anybody that has been 1. kissing your butt 2. Asked for the position and 3. Only hiring them because you know they won’t hesitate to fire someone... kissing butt means they will say yes to your face doesn’t mean they are good people (basically you already know they’re a liar what if they were a thief as well) ... if they asked for the position it means that they are usually hungry for the power and not necessarily just for the pay usually the best people that can lead somebody is the person that’s already doing it so just watch your people The guy that’s kissing your butt and asking for the job is not someone that’s a leader... and finally we got to the point where yes a manager should be a leader and therefore a leader knows when somebody’s time is up and therefore will also just be able to fire people when they know that they need to be fired that being said having none of the negative qualities above means that if you want someone to be fired but your manager doesn’t believe that he should be fired, you guys can have an adult conversation about why someone else should be let go if it’s a money problem because the person that you wanna fire is actually a really good employee... but Managers acting like the sandbox bully is WAY more common... because some how people in charge aren’t critical thinkers and go for the butt kisser... even when watching a movie with a butt kisser everyone knows to hate them and yeah ... they probably steal from the company... like the movie “employee of the month”

For the free meal ones a small local restaurant in my town has it in clear letters at the top of every page of the menu "if you eat most of it you dont get to complain there was something wrong with it and will be charged for it." They have stuck to that agaisnt a lit of pissed off tourists who a few times day they will never est there agian, as if they arent just passing through on their way somewhere else for the summer. That argument has a chance with locals but then the locals dont behave that way.

Oh OK maybe the reason why they didn’t tip you is because they needed a job to the one that was talking about they didn’t tip her and they did resumes… I don’t know about you but if you’re applying to become a waitress you’re not expecting to make much money since you have to rely on tips which means that you have to be nice to people in order to make good money honestly since I was a teenager I did not know why anybody wanted to work as a waitress or in retail or any other type of job that was a boring out in the open working with customers job I have never applied for any jobs like that and the only job that I have to kind of work with customers right now is AmazonWhich of course I have less than three minutes with every customer and that is even if they’re outside while I’m delivering a package
