[NO SPOILERS] Carlie & Ange, to clarify... This is NOT an isekai anime. Jin Woo is still a hunter but now he's also a ''player'', but he's the only one with this ability, because as stated, no hunter can get stronger after being awakened or re-awakened, but Jin Woo can. It was granted to him by completing the quest at the Altar and that ''God'' statue granted him this special ability which works like a game, he fights, levels up, completes quests, spends points to increase stats, gets rewards like ''recovery'' which heals him right away, boxes with items like that key, and points. The system is trying to help him get stronger. Hope this helps

His Level 1 starting stats were equally equivalent to his "Power Level" that the Surveillance team checked when they suspected him of a re-awakening. Which was 10. The average E Rank was said to be above 70 so each stat is weighed. You can see his strength stat currently being at half of a normal E Rank at this point. 😊 I hope this helps y'all

A few gaming terms used here, but an 'instance' (specifically in MMOs, anyway), is a portion of the world partitioned off and rendered for a specific group or individual. There can be multiple instances of the same area e.g. dungeons/raids in World of Warcraft. So, in this case, he's gone into an 'instance' dungeon of the subway, rather than just entering it in the overworld (which is just the real world, in this case). The penalty quest desert area would also technically be another example of an 'instance', it just wasn't specifically pointed out as one. You can basically think of instances as pocket dimensions based on areas of the real world. His power is basically just applying game systems to real life.

What happened in chapter 2 was a sequence of tests to be selected as a player, the system is an auxiliary aid for a greater purpose... In previous years, there was a lot of series that implemented "game-alike" system into anime, sometimes as isekai (main character dies/teleports to world with skills, stats and levels), sometimes as a game itself (where characters are playing). None of these elements suprissed me - I have feeling that I've already seen all of them in many series. But how i saw it was he gained this ability from the God monster thing by staying till the end on the altar (Showing his faith) and by doing that, that's granted him the ability to Level up. So when they tested him, he was still at the same Power level. But now hes a PLAYER, hes able to increase his level by doing Quests etc. I might be wrong but that's how I interpreted it all. I don't know how I feel about the "Game" mechanic being applied. I see it a lot in Isekai, and it ok fits there, but here, I just don't see the reason, I feel like it should be some other method, but I suppose its a common trope because it makes it easier for the author to communicate things to the reader. Anyway. Personally, I wouldn't dump all my stats in to just strength.

Hence the "convenience" of making it easy to communicate changes to a person's abilities. Would you like to know what Isekai are so common? Is it because "its a popular trend" eh, maybe, but in reality, its a narrative decision that allows the protagonist to learn the world along with the reader. If the protagonist already existed in the world it would not make sense. That everyone explains things to the protagonist (vessel of the audience). That is why things like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Twilight, etc. have the main character thrust into a new world / exposed to a world he didn't know. Having a character that is like "Oh look out for the Empire" the audience would be like "what's that" and there would be no reason for the protagonist to explain it, since they and people around him know. These are narrative decisions that are designed to best communicate various things to the audience. Which, are mechanisms people can disagree with or critique. So, the game system is ABSOLUTELY there for convenience as it is a very very simply way for the author to quickly communicate a change. Its similar to Power Levels in DBZ. Its a quick way to explain who is stronger, how much a person has changed, etc. They have done away with that since the numbers have gotten insane. Leveling mechanics themselves are a way to inform progression in a very simple and digestible way, as it quantifies progress. Imagine a game where you have no knowledge of how strong your character is, how close you are to achieving something, people would get frustrated. That's why exp bars exist, to represent progress. These are mechanisms to inform the audience in a convenient / simplest way. In this anime, the idea of him suddenly getting this menu doesn't really make much sense, unless the twist is everyone is actually inside a digital world, which isn't impossible, but I don't get that impression. Also "You probably don't have the trauma of being the weakest either" LOL Jinwoo is an average person. I too, am an average person. So that argument is complete trash.

Like others have said its not really a game thing, but its hard to explain without spoiling. Just keep in mind the world building it helps focus your attention in the right directions. This is a normal world that suddenly had gates to somewhere else break open & people awakened right? So you really have to think back on what these first episodes are trying to tell you. Rewards are known to be a real thing in this world now. BTW I wouldn't mind daily quests with that type of penalty, seeing him quickly understand the daily quests aren't as difficult as the penalty quest is gold hahahaha!
