Hi JIM, It Worked Just arrived today my 16GB DDR4 2666Mhz Crucial Ram. Mine Down-clocked to 2400Mhz to suit my Motherboard RAM speed. Thanks Man. Really needed 16GB+ for having instant access to my Workflow. I dont ever need to close any Application now for my system to run smoothly. (I tend to keep my Game in BG and work at the same time). I tried it, I bought a 16GB Sodimm RAM , added it to my soldered 4GB Laptop (Asus X505za - F505Za). Voila ! it worked, I have 20GB(4GB+16GB) Ram running in Dual Channel 2400MHZ Now. My Laptop is Also Asus, like his, so ASUS motherboards are really awesome for upgrades ! Ryzen 5 2500U (1st Gen Ryzen Mobile APU) Vega 8 Gfx (19GB System RAM and 1GB hardware Reserved by Vega 8 Gfx) Despite the Capacity Mismatch mine still runs at 2400MHz (1196MHz ~ 1200MHz Double Data Rate) which is fantastic. Now I can Run GTA 5 with multiple tabs of Chrome and All other Apps without closing them My total RAM usage now tops at 15.2 GB with plenty more RAM still free. Best Upgrade ever.

Nice upgrade man. The more ram the better. On my newer laptop Acer Nitro 5 AMD Ryzen 4600h. I added 16gb to the existing 8gb chip so have 24 GV ram. And. Runs just fine too. Good work!

You have to check with Asus. Sounds like there is 4GB built in then 4GB removable. So I suppose you can replaced that 4GB with. 16gb so that would give you 20Gb or 12gb if u get an 8gb dimm. But not 100% sure check with asus or more reviews

Since urs is also a vivobook family with *GB soldered i reckon u cud upgrade to a 24GB of RAM by adding a 16GB stick.

Yeah it's the same for both Amd and Intel with my research. I got 20GB and it's been almost a year running fine. If you don't mine the hassle, u can also sell your laptop and get the current generation AMD 4000 series. I did a review on Acer Nitro 5 AMD 4600h CPU and added a 16gb chip for 24 GB of RAM. It's so much faster for gaming and video editing. Anyways just an idea.

I added the 16GB to the 4GB successfully for 20GB. Almost all feedback from 8th generation Intel CPU says it supports 20GB so that's why I brought it. Regardless, 10th gen intel is out so those will definitely be better. good luck!

@@noname-tf7kq The Asus is what you can buy it with and not the max upgrade. IF you go to crucial page for vivobook-s14-s410un it will show 8 GB Built-in with 1 open slot. In the open slot, you can add 16GB so you can have 24GB for that laptop. Search for crucial vivobook-s14-s410un to access the page. Good luck!

Yeah , but for people who want to run 10 Tabs of Chrome , keep a game in the Background , Listen to some tracks all while writing a code using and IDE with Excel Spreadsheet open to Keep Run Time Logs. It's not an overkill if u are gonna use that much ram. My system now always tops 15.6GB RAM usage . so 12GB wont cut it. Its a peace of mind that u can Run as many Apps possible without a bad slowdown. It all depends upon the User. For Just Gaming, 8GB is bare minimum provided that u dont even dare to use chrome while gaming.

4GB is fine if you have 8 tabs of Internet. I think the thinkpad would have SSD and it uses that as swap or extra memory. So only if you feel the laptop is slow, then adding more ram would help. Add more memory will probably make your computer 20% faster but only if you have lots of Internet Tabs or memory intensive programs. So don't upgrade unless you feel your computer is slow.

You want to match the memory speed on your laptop. If you got Windows Task Manager, then click Memory it tells you the speed of your memory. I think for you it will be 2400mhz. But the if u buy the 2666 it will clock down so both will work.

Yes I edited videos and ran some virtual machine. All fine. But CPU and no dedicated graphics m as me it slower for DaVinci Resolve but usable.its been stable with 20gb. Never a pick up.

Yes, this laptop is working fine with 20gb of ram total. It's fine but probably upgrading to 12gb is enough as this laptop isn't really powerful for video editting or gaming anyways. thx for watching

Whenever my computer has problems, I look in the Task Manager, and almost all of the time, it's a CPU issue. You encounter this usually if you are rendering a video, playing a game, or recording the screen. Your best bet is to get a CPU more powerful than i3.

It comes with a M.2 SATA SSD. But a M.2 NVME SSD drive works as well and will be faster so that's what u recommend.

I just installed a 1TB M.2 2280 SSD today by removing the factory 128GB M.2 SATA SSD. I will give you a shout in a couple of days to see if its been working well and any speed increases.

Pankaj I can confirm what an increase in both speed and usability of different programs. The intel processor does bottleneck every once in a while but immediately fluctuates downward. I Am able to play rocket league on low graphic settings or MTGarena pretty comfortably

@@Overcool no problem. What are you worried about? Files or the OS? Both can be moved to a USB storage device. The OS can be loaded onto a usb device, (which I recommend everyone should have at least one of) and your personal files should always be saved elsewhere. Whether it be in the cloud or on another flash drive or personal external hard drive depending how much data you need to move. I upgraded and the difference is raw speed. My computer starts up in under 2-3 seconds from the power light coming on.

hmm My videos shows 2400Mhz before and after the upgrade. If you remove the memory, does it show 2133 Mhz if you boot it up with the built-in memory. Perhaps you have an older laptop? In the end, I don't think it matters as far as performance with 2133 Mhz.

That is because the in-built memory is running on just single channel ddr4 at 2133mhz. (The removable ram slot is empty) Once u pair it up with a new stick it runs in dual channel 2400mhz. (The removable slot is used)

@@borky1987 Then for some reason your memory is running at single channel 2133mhz. This happens when there is mismatch of ram types, especially manufacturer, model of ram, speed, latency difference. Asus recommends crucial's 16/8/4gb 2400Mhz modules only to run in dual channel mode. Usually this laptop has no issue with capacity differences. The inbuilt 4gb will run in dual channel with an external 4/8/16gb stick.

john cedric cabalyers yes u can upgrade double check Amazon reviews or manual. No it's bad for video editing. I since got a gaming laptop which I reviewed that has GTX 1650 and and 4600h CPU 6 core. Almost no delays now and export takes 3 minutes as opposed to 11 minutes before 1080p video export.

in Windows Taskmgr manager it will show you the ram DDR3 or 4 and Mhz. You would want to buy an 8GB chip with DDR and Mhz to match your system.

Josh Syl searching for "ryzen 5 2500u max ram" shows at least 1 person with a HP laptop with same CPU that works. So it may work but not sure. Buy from somewhere when it's easy to return. Personally upgrading to 20GB was unnecessary as I don't often use more than 10GB unless u trying to run virtualization or DaVinci Resolve. Even then with an SSD is fast when 12 GB ram is used. First will need to google how to remove Windows S mode so it will be Windows 10 Home edition. There should no reason to reinstall Windows 10 Home but your computer is already licensed for it automatically. Third, I google that upgrade your laptop memory will not void your warranty. HI it only has 1 M2 NVM slot. If you want to add another drive, it will have to be external USB3 drive. I think u can buy a 2TB usb drive for $50. Thanks for watching!

not sure. A quick Google search says it comes with 8 GB built-in with 1 open slot for another 8gb. So max 16gb. Also look at th crucial website is another reliable source.

@@MAKEMONEYMARK8 Yeah Crucial Website was correct, My Laptop Manufacturer was wrong abt total System RAM support being 16GB. memorystock website also concluded saying 20GB maximum for 4GB Laptop and 24GB max for the 8GB model. Just Google Search : "[Your Laptop Name - Model Number] memorystock or memory upgrade" it'll show u a link for the memory stock website click on it to find out. Many Laptops dont support numbers like 20GB 24GB.

Yes you can. You just have to find the M.2 slot that holds your current SSD and insert the type you want. Just remember it has to be M.2 form factor.

24GB (8GB+16GB)total possible , I had come past some forums on this. Actually Soldered Ram is great for compatibility problems. If u buy 4GB and 8GB sticks and put it in 2 slots it wont run in dual channel mode. But if the 4GB is system Soldered and u decide to buy a 8GB or even a 16GB it will run in dual channel mode at the Full speed ur Laptop supports.

that laptop is from 2016 and isn't a gaming laptop plus it has slow hard drive. You will want to buy a Gaming Laptop for about $800 or so that includes SSD hard drive and dedicated graphics cards. Make sure it's a 2020 laptop and watch a KZbin review on it. I am saving 1K myself for a gaming laptop which I can us for video editing too. Thanks.

@@yvonnevspinola For Minecraft and Robo games, your system meets the requirements already. Google some general Windows performs article. They will usually tell you Uninstall un-needed programs, Defrag the hard drive, Update the Video Drivers, and then you should be good to go. Your laptop is fine so it's software tweaks need. Upgrading to a SSD will increase system responsiveness but that big of an issue. Also, have your kid turn down Graphics Settings in the game itself so it will run faster; this is the most important thing to do. Good luck!

I have the same model. It came with 8GB of RAM when purchased. Asus initially claimed that the laptop can hold up to a total of 16GB of RAM. So I bought an extra 8GB assuming the 8GB was soldered inside and there was still room for an additional 8GB module in the empty, upgradable memory slot. However, when I opened the laptop I found that 4GB was soldered and a 4GB module was in the upgradeable memory slot. This would mean I could only add a maximum of 8GB in the upgradeable slot to a total of 12GB instead of 16GB. That's what Asus is also claiming now elsewhere on the web. I was a bit disappointed by this setback and started doing some research on the web. Finally I found this video where you explain that I can safely add 16GB in the upgradeable slot. I exchanged the purchased 8GB module for a 16GB module and placed it in the upgradeable slot for a total of 20GB. And yes, it works like a charm! So, a big thank you for posting this video. You really helped me out. Thanks!
