Beautiful bench. If you ever make another one, consider adding a slight curve to the top slats for comfort. This can be easily achieved with a string bow drawn onto an mdf template, then bandsawed and flush trimmed into each slat.

I think so! Sapele mahogany is rot resistant, so shouldn't be any issue there. However, with the intense weather, any finish applied will most likely need to be refreshed every 1-2 years.

I think this is a great skill-builder project: measuring, set-up, repeating your cuts. And I love the finished project. And having done it once you could modify the dimensions to make small tables or stools. Great plan!

New subscriber, thanks for the video. I watched another video on how to build one of there the other day and it sparked my interest. I have to say, I was shocked on how much the wood cost for this. Pretty much makes it a 400$ bench. Gosh, I wish I had a domino but it’s not in the budget right now. Nor do I want to buy/ use a dado blade. There an obvious work around on the dado but wondering what you you recommend in place of the domino. I will have one down the road but have other necessities to buy before I spend over 1k on this dang tool.

The bench will be a present for my first grandson (due in September). Going to carve his name in the stretcher. Where did you get your 321 setup block (is it a Woodpecker 1x2x4?)? Sorry for another question, but I’m looking at Ramon Valdez’ dock for my DF500. Do you find this device pretty helpful? I can really see it’s value in doing smaller pieces.

I assume it’s so you’ll have a smidgen of overlap on your second pass, but I’m not sure. 13/16” dado stack + 3/4” stop block + 1/32” shim? Do I have that right? Thanks Keith!

@@michaelschmidt8968 Correct! I wanted a little bit of overlap. And yes, you're measurements are correct in theory, but that's if all your lumber is milled exactly as mine. Just make sure you do test cuts first. And thanks for purchasing the plans. Good luck!

I've got a question about the domino. I don't own one, so I simply don't know the answer. Why do you always use 2 dominos for each joint instead of 1? Is it better for strength of the joint?

The long grain to long grain glue connection is stronger than wood, so the more you have the better. Also, having a double helps to prevent twisting.

Your videos are the best. The mix of amazing woodworking and witty comments are great. I find it a shame all your videos don’t get the millions of views those couple got. Getting rid of “Senior gappo” was so funny but also showed how prestige your work is

No. I don’t clean the gun until I’m done. The finish is sealed and under pressure so there’s no need.
