That's awesome, just ordered my daughter a 12v Chevy Silverado for christmas, upgrading from her 6v quad she got for her second birthday, she picked up up pretty fast so I'll most likely be doing a swap at some point once the 12v isn't enough for her. I had a Big Foot power wheels as a kid, and that thing was my baby lol.
@fishrrelaxing93614 жыл бұрын
24v is fun but even with the upgrades they get super hot and will still have reliability issues. The best is 18v cause it seems to be the right balance. The first gear isn’t the int that strike either it’s the final drive gear which is still plastic. I’ve tinkered will several of these now and all in all.. the best combination I’ve found for increased performance and reliability is using 2 18v 5ah tool battery’s wired in parallel. This give 18v performance and much longer run time as well as faster charging. Really if you can fit as many drill batteries as you can wired in series’s being sure to run a voltage drop regulator so you don’t over drain the lotion cells and ruin them. Regular RC batteries are even better as they can deliver more output making even an 18v faster then a 24v with less motor heat.. but the drill batteries is really the best way to go. I wouldn’t use HO drill batteries though just regular 4-5ah ones. They tend to overheat the motors as much as running 24v That said.. more important is that you add cooling to the motor box area and keep the gear boxes packed with good grease as they really don’t strip till they get dry and the extra heat in the gears melts the grease out pretty quick. You also want to get the heat sinks that bolt around the motors. Drill few holes in the front and rear of the housing around the motors and add heat sinks and 18v will last as long as factory setups. If you really want to go 24v then keep spare factory 7r gearboxes on hand and add cpu fans with 775 motors and sinks. In all honestly this is fun to do for your kids but in the end it’s easier and cheaper to get an actual 24v platform which comes with a real solid axle and drive motor (very similar to what you would find in a regular atv only electric setup) you can then bump them to 36/48v pretty easy an inky have to deal with swapping the controllers. You can even add small gas motors to them later pretty easy if you want to take it a bit further as they have real metal frames real metal drive axles rubber tires etc.. $200 more initial cost for a 24v version but you’ll spend $200 just converting over from 12-24 on a regular powerwheels and always have to be buying gear boxes which aren’t expensive but at $20 a pop it adds up with time spent swapping them. For really young kids and the toddler 6v setups they still use regular 12v gears and motors and are just powered by 6v. They are super easy to upgrade to 12v which can be done for $20 or so. You can even take them to 18v as well but will need to swap from the 330 to the regular 550 motor (775 will not fit in most of them) but as they are so much lighter they have a lot of traction issues when bumping a 6v to a 18v setup.

you can take some bicycle tires, cut the tread off of them wrap it around the Power Wheels tires and put some screws in between the lugs so they're not sticking up. 1 strip around the center of the front wheels will make it turn on a dime. 12" tires work great but any size could be cut down.

Now that you have added more power those wheels won't last long spinning on concrete. I might suggest making him some runner grips by riveting or screwing a piece of a bicycle tire onto the wheels. Or if you prefer to spin your tires still but don't want to kill the wheels maybe try screwing a piece of crazy carpet to the wheels to act as a shield, replacing when it wears through. Also I have seen electric kids atvs made by gio. they seem pretty good. my nephew has one and he seems to get some good use out of it
@MadRam118 жыл бұрын
yeah I know they won't last and I will eventually put rubber on them. I have my reasons for not doing it yet and it's mainly because if the tires are spinning he can't go as fast.

I am upgrading my son's quad for his birthday which is coming up soon. He has the same one as your son, just the ninja turtle one. I've done a lot of research on 24 volt upgrades and I'm leaning towards ml toys stage 4 kit with their 24 volt conversion kit and brake reduction module. Can you please tell me how much modification you had to do to install two batteries? Also how did you install the brake module without keeping it exposed to the "elements"? Lastly can you please tell me how the gears and motors are holding up since the install? My son is going to be 3 and he is a little on the small side but he rides like a champ. I assume you never went with an esc system and I don't plan on it either. I figure with him being smaller the gears should hold up well. Do you get decent runtime with the 24 volts and stage 4 kit? I apologize for all the questions but you have the exact same power wheels for your son and I want to make sure I'm making the right choices before investing the money in my sons power wheels quad. I've heard some negative comments about ml toys but your videos seems to show positive results.

It does appear to be a touch slower. It also appears Lil dude is handling the power of it better too so it’s hard to tell. Still fast as hell anyhow. My 3 year has the same one, except ninja turtles, loves it. I had looked into those metal gears and what not as while back as I have two older kids as well. But they were too steep on the price for me, when considering all options. Although if that thing is still goin hard 2years later running on 24v, then it just might be worth the scratch. I had decided against it though and instead have been taking the parts of a razor pocket mod scooter and putting them on a Barbie mustang for my daughter. 24v, motor controller, throttle, chain drive rubber tires etc. Runs nice and quiet, should go around as fast as the scooter did (14mph). Going to do one similar for my oldest son with the dune racer power wheel. I have all the parts off a smaller razor scooter I’ll probably throw on the 3 year old atv after he kills the gearboxes or gets tired of the speed. I just put green underglow lights, headlights and a voltage indicator the other day. He likes it. I just might have to look into the metal gears and what not again though, seeing as how you seem to not have problems with the longevity of them.
