Hi Adrian, Many thanks and compliments for your review. Very informative! I am looking into the SG1203 and it's extraordinary and quite impressive design and performance for some time. But till your smart video I could never exactly figure out how this very smart model is actually working. Pictures, videos and reports of the transmission where pointing in the direction how it works, but it was never clarified that it works with two individual ESCs, all without any RC channel mixing functions, which is a known technology for RC chain driven vehicles since along time. You are the first showing clearly this fact… GREAT…very well done! Thanks again! As for the main ESC you are using: The WP-1040 series is OEM produced by HobbyWing for many other RC companies since a long time; so, you can find such ESC units in a countless number of RTR models from many different companies. And over the years the ESCs went on in development and within this there are definitely versions where you can program the ESC in a way that it switches directly from forward to backwards. The way it looks in your video you have it running in some "forward - brake - reverse" mode. Please check into your ESC, maybe you can change the programming accordingly. Keep on your great reviewing and HAVE FUN! 🌞😎👍

Hi, so far this is mist nice comment I get :) If I like a toy I upgrade it and I did not expect to see so complicated mechanism inside :) I have programming card for ESC but I don't need that here (I use it only for ESC on Feiyue) Electronic in this model is well designed and I also did not expect that on so cheap model but so far is a 2019 hit :)

Since it looks like it only uses 1 motor for forward and reverse, Do you think a larger forward only motor could be put in it to gain more speed? Say upgrade from a 390 to a 540, clearly some redesigning would have to take place to fit the larger motor, the question more is, does it have room inside for something bigger if you were able to 3d print a mount for it?
@Adrian2023 жыл бұрын
Sorry I answer, but I don't see My comment. Motor is build in gearbox, so hard to say if there is space for stronger motor. Also, stronger motor will destroy gears faster Some stronger motors are just longer, so You could just cut out the wall behind (if there is a wall :D )

Did you changed the ESCs just for more functions on the remote or do they actually affect the performance of the Ripsaw? Did you swap to more powerful motors later? I eventually want a faster tank but I'm afraid that all the stock plastic parts(wheels, gears, suspension mounting points) are not going to survive heavier loads.
@Adrian2024 жыл бұрын
I change electronic to have more speed control (I can run ut very slow speed) but original electronic is fine. Gearbox is so big that changing anything is almost impossible :D You can always find similar brushless motor for drive but that will destroy gears :( Still it's a toy but so far it's one of best toys of 2019 so if factories see that they will start to make new upgrades like shocks and stuff like that so just wait :)

@@Adrian202 My stock electronics suddenly is not picking up signals from the remote. I decided to use diy ESCs and I watched your video a couple times more. You said that you have to push twice to go Reverse. Some ESC have 3 modes, mainly for safe crawling. F/B/R, F/B, F/R(Forward, Brake, Reverse). I guess that's why you have to press twice to go back, because once is for brake. What ESCs have you finally used for steering and drive? Is that 10A ESC enough for steering? Thanks!
@Adrian2024 жыл бұрын
@@samonesa9125 How many times I click will depend on what mode is set from factory :) but Yes, i have forward and reverse with no brake. For steering they use 130 motor or something similar and they don't need strong ESC so 20A should be fine

I would be very careful with the Quicrun you bought. I did the same thing from Ebay and it wasn't the real thing! It burned up the first time I took my 12428 buggy outside! It needs to SAY quicrun on it and it should come in a Hobbywing box with instructions. Spend more for the real thing and swear less. I'm glad I saw this video. It answers my concerns that the metal tracks would wear out the plastic idlers and drive sprockets. For better traction, maybe the rubber tracks can get some tabs to drive better on grass. Hopefully, an aftermarket transmitter and receiver will increase the range. One video says the range is only about 50 meters = 150 feet. Aside from gaining an extra channel for lights, how necessary is it to change out the ESC's. Is it like the cheap buggies where the all-in-one board is cheap and useless? The steering ESC goes to the steering motor, but what is it that powers the lights? Is it that ESC? If the LED's will take 8VDC, why can't they operate off of a 7.2VDC lipo? Did you do what you did because you may use a 3S (11.3VDC) lipo?

Hi Adrian, great video here! Very informative. I'm very new into RC and this SG 1203 is my first toy. I'm looking into mod it to some degree. I already added weights to the front, waterproofed all electronics, and I moved the ON/OFF switch to the passenger side inspired by you. Now I'm trying to add a battery level indicator(voltage monitor) for the drive battery. And I'm also looking into putting lights for all those available spots and swap out the low-brightness stock lightbar. But I'm planing to use a separate battery dedicated just for the lighting. This way regardless how much lighting I have, it will always run with no range decrease. Have you considered this idea?
