Those SATA hard drives you put in the server are 4500 or 7200 rpm?

I enjoyed the video very much. I have an R320 on the way with dual Xeon 4Cs and have one of the 6C Xeons you suggest coming also. 2 more cores for less than $20 US- that's a no-brainer. Luckily I have DDR3 ECC chips to spare. The worst thing about this server (and most older ones) is it comes with USB 2.0 ports only. You can add a USB 3.0 or higher but need to check compatibility. My idea of checking compatibility is plug it in and see if it works. No kidding- backing up 2Tb of data over USB 2 takes a while. I also appreciate the video because I misread the Dell Support page and thought it was a dual CPU box. I might have ordered 12 memory chips instead of 6! FYI- the "crust" on the CPU is heatsink compound. You can clean it and replace it or just scrape it from the old CPU and spread it evenly on the new CPU. Your way is better, but the old thermal paste is likely still good too. Let the flames begin (attacks on me, not actual flames on the CPU).

Hey, thanks for watching! I cleaned the CPU as well as I could with kitchen paper / paper towel as others call it as I don't have the isopropyl alcohol handy. Yeah USB 2.0 is common and as I don't need 3.0 it's fine as it is. Yeah, I got the lower power CPUs for the extra cores as well with the lower clock speeds to save some energy

Great video, do you know if the R320 can install esxi 8?

Thanks a lot for your video! Since I upgraded the CPU in my R320 it has now a frequency multiplier of 12 instead of 24 (standard). Any idea where to change this?

Hi, I recently picked up a 320. It has the h710. I can't get the drives to show when going to install an OS. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. They show up via the controller but not to the OS. Either windows or Linux

Hi. Did you use a RAID Configuration or just plug the drives in as normal SATA. The drives might not show up on their own unless you put the 710 controller in some HBA mode if you don't want to use RAID / use Software Raid

I'll be honest and say I've zero experience with Dell systems.😅 It says the storage controller is running in AHCI mode but I don't think that is actually the h710 card... I think that's the setting for if it was an onboard controller. Certainly nothing is set as RAID currently. I need to dig in to it this weekend.
