Upgrading a Hornby GWR Class 101 - Part #2 - Installing pickups & wiring the loco-tender connection

Welcome back to this little mini-project of converting my original pickup tender / wagon for my GWR 101 into something a bit more reliable, easy to work on, and less noisy!
Originally I added a rather bodged set of pickups to a wagon to couple to the 101 for more reliable electrical connection to the track (as this older style of Hornby 101 has very spindly and flimsy pickups that aren't all that reliable), so today we continue the "proper" way to solve the problem with newly designed pickups and a slightly tidier solder job!
We fit the pickups, wire the loco and tender together, and see if this project has or has not been a massive waste of time........spoiler: some things did not go according to plan, but I am overall happy with the result - the wagon rolls smoother, it's quieter, and it is making a way more reliable connection with the track. (Just about) project success!
