Amazing review. I love all the details you pointed out. Honestly, I'm a bit sad, I'm really a Sim Racer lover, it's my favorite genre to play. I can literally play those games all day everyday and still having fun. I really want to have a full experience, I never had a wheel before so I started searching for reviews to see a good one. I fell in love with Fanatec CSL Elite however... This cost way beyond I can pay. I live in Brazil and those things has unbelievably high prices. Sadly I will have to go for a G29.

Same here in Indonesia. However, you can keep an eye on used Fanatec base. As sim racing circle is quite small compared to, let say it other kind of gamers, you can have a bit of trust

To be honest I wouldn't worry too much. If the G29 is your first wheel you'll be more than happy with it for a while.

Been waiting for a more recent & relevant review, so thanks for this. Any further elaboration on how different the FFB feels in comparison to the G29 (For both ACC & GT Sport)? Some people seem to think there's not much of an improvement if you're mainly playing GT Sport.

There's a huge improvement on ACC - the whole game just feels more detailed. There is still improvement on Gt Sport, mainly in the smoothness, however it isn't as significant as ACC! Hope this helps

How does it compare to direct drive though? I saw one posted for sale in my area including a whole cockpit setup, but I didn't realize it's not a direct drive wheel until now.

In my opinion...the gap between gear driven and belt driven is much larger than between a good belt driven like the CSL elite and something like a DD pro/CSL DD. Yes, DD does offer noticeably more detail and more torque, but upgrading to a DD didn't totally transform my sim experience unlike upgrading to the CSL Elite did from a G29. DD is worthwile if you can afford it, but a CSL elite remains a very good option.

You will get busted if your car breaks! You can only do repairs by driving through fuel stations though.

It's certainly worth it if your into sim racing from my experience so far! Being on PC is also great as you can access I-racing, R factor 2 ext which are arguably the best sims to be playing with a wheel like this! I assume you already have a G29 or similar? I have a Logitech G29 and a Fanatec CSL GT PRO and to be totally honest I don't know why I have more fun on the Logitech still it's weird. But do you all think pedals make a bigger difference then the actual base? Because for my CSL I only have the CSL pedals but thinking of upgrading to V3's

Pedals make a much bigger difference in terms of raw pace. V3's will make you a bit faster and definitely more consistent! V3's also have vibration motors in the brake and throttle pedals for some extra immersion.

Do you experience any rattling or knocking sounds with your wheel base? I've heard from others that they get an extremely loud knocking noise from the belt when hitting rumble strips and the like in certain games.

On the CSL? Yes, a little bit. I wouldn't call it 'extremely loud' though! If you turn off dampening then it can get quite loud but I would say it's still less noise than a G29 overall.

The Fanetc Ecosystem of wheels and pedals is worht it! I has the CSR Elite and it's plenty strong @60%. New DD is even better!

Yes, the motor is the same. Many of the other internals are different though, which is why the 2.5 is still an upgrade

Yes, sadly it is pretty much discontinued due to the release of the "CSL DD" which is taking pre orders now. If you really want one, then Ebay is your best bet, but it's replacement is a direct drive wheel and therefore much better - worth getting one of them instead!

Negative: Load Cell brake upgrade is a blatent ripoff! YOu can almost get a full pedal set for not much more! Shame on you Fantec!
