Upgrading Garage Door Opener Gears With Metal

It would be interesting to see a follow-up video in six months, to see how the new material is holding up. Worm gears are very sensitive to fit issues. I would look for sheet metal that is bent or misaligned that is a more likely cause of the failure as you replace the gears. Plastic gears are better at absorbing shock such as jammed doors etc. and when lubrication is not dependable. The difficulty with bearing removal would suggest possible dimensional issues with the chassis.

@@MatthewThie-md9nj old opener, I’ll definitely post a follow up, so far so good. But definitely a noticeable noise difference because of the metal gears, plastic is definitely quieter. There’s a give and take to everything.
