Geek time is time well spent. Sometimes. This was a great insight to the guts of a laptop, Tinman. I’ve never had one, but often did similar upgrades to my Mac towers of old. 🤛🏻💻🇺🇸

Thanks, Walter! Yeah, sometimes things don’t go smoothly at all and the best solution is a shotgun slug 😂 My grandpa taught me to build computers in my early teen years and I still remember a good bit of it.

Man you got all the cool toys!!!!!!!!!! A drive duplicator/cloner... I didn't even know they existed!
@TinManReloading8 ай бұрын
I didn’t either until Pat (Westcovinadodge) told me to pick one up for a job I did for my sister. It’s really handy! Thanks, Les 👍🏻

Interesting video. Thank you. I must say, listening to what I believe was your furnace in the background for a few moments was a heck of a lot better than the obnoxious, head banging music some tubers feel obliged to make us endure through their entire video. Thanks for that too. Now if anyone is taking a class in writing and you need an example of a run on sentence, feel free to use the one above.

😂 Thank you! It’s always annoying when you’re trying to listen to someone explain what they’re doing but the silly music drowns it out. I try not to do that. And run on sentences are okay on the internet. I’m a tinner, not an English major 😂

I was lucky that my old Gateway laptop that I still use had access panels to get to the memory and HD. Made it much easier to upgrade everything without taking the entire back off. I use a program on my Linux boxes called TimeShift by TeeJee Tech that is a standard installed application on most Linux OS that backs up the entire system or whatever parts you choose as a snapshot on an hourly, daily, weekly or monthly basis to a secondary internal or external USB drive. If for some reason, your system ever crashes due to a HD or SSD or software issue you can boot from a live USB of the OS pull up one of the backup file and reinstall the system just like nothing ever happened.

I’ve seen them with the access panels and that is really nice. I don’t know a lot about Linux, but that sounds like an awesome setup for not losing your stuff. I’ll look into that! Thanks, 762 👍🏻

@@TinManReloading I would recommend Linux Mint Cinnamon edition 21.3 You can download the ISO file and burn it to a USB drive and boot up a live version to play around with without installing anything.

Wow, I found myself thinking they make a tool for that. Also "you can still do that!" You make it look so easy. I remember updating my old PC from win 3,0 to win 95. Yeah back then new hard drives and CD-ROMS and sticks of ram was just as easy. But I quit doing that when laptops came out. Looks good to go and just as easy as it used to be. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, I haven’t done a whole lot with laptops, but like you I’ve done it all a bunch of times on desktops in my younger years. Same stuff, smaller package 😂 Thanks, Tim!

Eh, it’s just like working on cars nowadays. Everything has its own sub-system and its purpose. Not a whole lot to it. You could handle it. If not, your kids sure could!

Hey Julio! Good to hear from you! Yes, Pat recommended that to me back when I was helping my sister work on her dinosaur computer. It’s really nice to have. I need to do a Linux copy of one of her bad drives here soon! Hope you’re doing well and thanks for the comment 👍🏻👍🏻
