I just upgraded from well binned 5800x3D to 9800x3D a week ago. At the moment, paired with RTX 4080S. Massive improvement on overall smoothness on several games (low fps drops) and solid fps base level on open world titles. The biggest average FPS boost was with Spider-Man. Damn, that game had problems running higher fps because CPU massively bottlenecked the performance. Even with 9800x3D, the CPU can easily be the bottleneck. On both 4k and 1440p ultrawide screens. This was before undervolting and OC. I have no idea if this CPU is just so well binned, but absolutely zero stability issues even with higher values. This seems like absolute dream CPU. I try to find some negative things to say, but the more I test new features and push its limits, the more I enjoy using it. Super low power after undervolt, but performs like a beast with DDR5-6000, CL30. This does get me back to the same type of feeling like back in the days overclocking 2500k and 4790k CPUs. Btw, not gonna to lie, we need way faster gaming CPUs when the RTX 5090 is released. It can run games way higher level than the CPUs, and even current gen is being held back. I kind of hope that 9950x3D or at least the next gen would fix the higher core + 3D cache issues. Seems like most new open world AAA games are having issues even running stable 120fps average with RT. Then add PT on top of that. Path Tracing is especially CPU demanding. Users better start capping their fps to lower level (4k/120Hz) and rather get added visuals with DLDSR.

This is the exact upgrade I just made. I built a whole new rig (minus my GPU I already had) and I’m super happy with it. It’s a great PC

I have 5900X too so I am looking to upgrade into AM5 platform and use 9800X3D. Thanks for pointing out 1% lows and micro stutterring.

I was looking for this! Thank you!!! 🙏🏽 - I recently bought the 9800x3D, it should be arriving tomorrow :p. Now I'm on the fence because the 9950x3D is expecting to launch around mid Jan & the recent benchmark leaks has got the 9950x3D with a 15% performance gain over the 9800x3D. My question to you is, will it make a significant performance jump over 9800x3D at 4k gaming? Thanks 👍🏽

You likely won't see much of a difference in 4k gaming if at all. It's rumored to have only cache on one ccd (otherwise it would cost too much). The benchmark you saw is likely a one off sample from a synthetic benchmark. Don't read too much into that. You won't know for sure until it comes out

it won't be faster look at zen 4? r7 7800x3d faster than 7900/7950x3d so? 3d v-cache is on one ccd again as the channel said lmao so 9800x3d is the king of gaming after r9 9000x3d

did you do gaming+recording and streaming with that cpu?
