14:32 A lot of Nvidia's higher end cards have coil while like this. For anyone reading this and unaware of a solution, a mild undervolt may help, at a very mild performance drop. In the case of this 3090 Ti, I imagine the power delivery is quite aggressive and thus the resulting whine.
@falkez15149 ай бұрын
the whine comes from the vrms right?
@Jmich699 ай бұрын
@@falkez1514 The whine comes from the transistors in the GPU/CPU. It is usually associated with cheap power delivery (which includes the VRM).
@falkez15149 ай бұрын
@@Jmich69 oh shit, 1y ago and still came back for it, pretty chad ngl so the whine becomes worse when the power delivery is hit then, that makes sense i guess. but i thought inducers were the most whine generators, how can transistors whine?
@Jmich699 ай бұрын
@@falkez1514 Something about the frequency of the transistors hitting an audible harmonization. I honestly don't know enough about the science and detailed reasoning behind it, but I understand that having a higher quality VRM can help prevent a GPU from having coil while. Something about the cleaner and more consistent power delivery. You can most often find bad coil whine in cards with the bare minimum allowed power delivery. You can also find coil while in a top end ROG STRIX card. It's much less likely, but it can happen.
@loekhabets86988 ай бұрын
@@Jmich69 It's called coil whine for a reason. GPU power consumption varies during different stages of rendering a frame. This causes fluctuations in the inductor current of the VRM stages and therefore in the magnetic fields inside them. The copper windings of the inductors start to vibrate a little under the influence of this changing magnetic field. The reason high-end cards have this more often is because they draw more current per stage and have more stages that make the noise while also increasing the frequency as they are slightly out of phase by design, pushing it into a range where the human ear is more senstitive. Frame rate also affects the frequency, which is why in some games it's possible to "modulate" the frequency by turning the camera.

I wish they would start remaking CRT's, I would shell out good money for a high end one.

Seriously though, a top-grade crt coupled with the refresh rate would be interesting. Give the set up a better shot.

Hdmi to vga converter is designed to 1080p 60Hz output. So doesn't make any sense pushing it up to higher frame rates. It will do just fine at 60fps vsync on.

Is it just me, or is every heatsink on that mainboard expertly designed to trap heat and mercilessly cook whatever component sits below?

Hey Dawid. I actually use my main PC on a CRT monitor on occasion for some games that support 4:3/5:4 resolutions. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 with RT on look PRETTY GREAT at 2048x1536 resolution with that CRT GLOW and SMOOOOOOOOOOTHNES. Definitely recommend! If you can find a CRT that works well in your area, and supports at least 1280x1024 and over 60Hz. (85Hz is a sweet spot for what you can reasonably find in a surprising number of areas) I'd recommend it if you had the chance to give it a go. I'd offer my Samsung SyncMaster 1100DF but I feel the Seattle, WA USA area is A BIT FAR for that.

I’m so glad that he showed how he could play his GPU like an instrument on a high frame rate game! i’m still within the return period for a 3090 TI and I know they have coil wine but this thing is so loud and it does shift frequency like that depending on what you’re looking at, playing something like Apex legends@200-300fps on max. I seriously was wondering if it was broken or about to break but it seems to have been confirmed by a few tech people that have bought a lot more high-end cards than I have, It’s just really ridiculous coil wine that happens at stupid highfraframe rates, i guess? either way the thing is incredibly loud and I’m a little surprised that is normal but I guess that’s what three or 400watts shoved through a bunch a little capacitors and chips does?

It's not only the GPU... your power supply can affect it too. And other components. That's kinda the tradeoff you make for having a lego like system with many parts. Imo it's ridiculous to actually think that this would always "just work".

Could the GPU's Pump be making that sound from having it at the highest point of the run in the AIO?? Jump to 8:50 to see what I am talking about. 14:32 for the sound.

I think it would be great if you could release some info on the thickness of the thermal pads and even do a thermal pad replacement video. You could measure the difference between high end thermal pads and the stock ones for Vram temperatures. Can even apply some quality thermal paste for the GPU as well while you are at it. As seen in the video it doesnt seem too tricky to remove the shrouds and install new pads-paste.

I believe from the rumors is that the 3090Ti is the bare framework on the AD10* boards in terms of higher power draw and saving on r&d costs already having a fairly simplified power delivery and structure to the PCB
@BrunodeSouzaLino2 жыл бұрын
On some cards, this specific adapter doesn't work and you need one that receives external power. Not every card sends enough power through the digital ports.

I noticed the unpopulated 12 pin connector on the board at the top right which seems like it would face out the right side of the card. I would personally like it much more if that was used in place of the one on the top.

11:58 if the 3090 ti can be at near 100% usage while CPU is at around 40 means the GPU is the bottleneck. you heard it here first. the 3090 ti is slow. maybe the 4090 is better

6:22 I believe it is 20 phases and 2 phases for the GDDR6. It has 6 blank spots for up to 26 phases! Good lord. It might be the same PCB design for next gen lovelace? The 4090 supposedly draws 500-600W!

14:28 thats the coil wine witch is the most important peace of technology used to increase wattage (turbo speed) for cpu and other parts its integrated on motherboard gpu have it own coil wine integrated on shipset thats why you need to connect power cable separately on gpu rather than connecting it on motherboard is may sound annoying sometime when there is much load on gpu / cpu

Hi Dawid! Greetings from ALSO CANADA! It'd be sick to see this same testing on an old-ish monitor that has native VGA, and also DVI, then compare to a new/ high refresh monitor with DP, just to see how much you bottleneck a high-tier card with digital to analog, and also digital to older digital, versus native display port. Thanks for the vid, love your channel

There is a possibility that this card uses a board that can also use the 4000/5000 series of gpu dies thus why the extra spots for power delievery.
